Open Oscillations

This mini LP with 5 fantastic tracks evolved from the conversation between Rec_Overflow and his Nord synth.

As the title “Talking with my Nord” may let expect Rec_Overflow from Madrid (Spain) strikes back with digital processed sounds and analog oscillations on Berlins Netlabel Crazy Language. This release is more like a journey through his influences. From abstract beats to straight baselines and from uplifting sounds to permanent modulated sequencies shows this release how variable and always fascinating Rec_Overflow can sound. [dnn7]

The Love Songs is the amazing one man arkestra Sven Swift. Swift lives in the North of Germany, runs the CDR- and Netlabel 12rec.net and writes reviews about free music at Phlow Magazine and his own blog RUBored.org.

In June 2007, Sven performed a 25-minutes live-set at the DIY 2.0 festival in Dresden. The whole set consists of one well-structured, tension-filled piece of drone music, created with analogue synthesizers and effect-feedback only (an exception is the little nightingale-chant framing the performance). The complete recording is naturally placed atop the sound of the audience and city underneath, people chatting around, an ambulance passing the venue. It was Alexander Peterhaensel who carefully recorded all of this.

Listening to his recording will engage you with the enormous dynamics and ornamental structures of Sven’s composition. It starts with the solely song of a nightingale, very soft and quiet. After a little while there are the first background-noises more harsh, combined with harmonic keyboard-patterns. These soft patterns are raising to a deep and warm drone-blanket, sometimes disturbed by sharp noises and feedback. All this ebbs away in the end, as you hear the nightingale sing again.

Put on your headphones and take a time-warp back to a warm Summer’s day in 2007…

“The Black Waltz EP is a concept I came up with while playing Final Fantasy IX in the wee hours of the night. The story line involves a golem like character called The Black Waltz, who’s only purpose is to kill. As he is on his mission to kill Princess Garnet he has a short circuit and questions his existence. I found this very interesting and I enjoyed the sound track of the game itself. I knew I had to recreate these feelings of lost purpose and misdirected intentions that the character was having. Kuja, the main villain in this tale, is also similar to The Black Waltz. He is an evolved creature of immense power, but a limited life span and no free will of his own. He rebels against his master for his own freedom only to destroy himself. This is a struggle I deal with on a day to day basis. That is why The Black Waltz is the only dance I know.
….Love Always”

We are proud to present the very first netlabel release from Ektoplazm: Ekoplex’s Enter The Dragon EP. Ekoplex is Ray Vincent, a multifaceted psytrance producer currently based in Toronto, Canada, already known across the country for his engaging live shows. The Enter The Dragon EP showcases three different sides to Ekoplex’s production capabilities: Premonition pulsates with full-on energy and a dirty techtrance drive, Astronomical Unit exudes dark and whimsical qualities, and Julia delves into bright and melodic vibes for the morning hours. This release has been professionally mastered at Timecode Studios, South Africa.

Kikapu Screenshot RIP

Bad News | Yesterday night I stumbled upon the Kikapu Netlabel-Website while correcting some links. I was simply horrified, discovering that Kikapu claimed its dead. These are always the moments, when I grab my head and think: “Shit! We lost some beautiful digital culture and there is no way back to get another glimpse at it.” In the next moment I discovered that you still find lots of music on archive.org but that’s only a drop in the ocean of sadness. We lost one of the oldest netlabels and it’s fantastic website. Have a look yourself!

Straight from your neighbourhood is all about taking funky breaks and then bending them till they un-break.

«The dazzling state before the magnanimous perspective of space is something that affects most people. The infinite, the fascinating void… the senses numbed by the impossibility to explain everything that surrounds us… these are the first images that ‘Light Years’ - a new release by Lee Rosevere – awake in our mind. Lee has been releasing his works mostly through his own label Happy Puppy Records and a few others like my good friend Adam’s Proc-Records.
The beginning of this work starts with a drone that moves around within minimal frequencies, as if it was the soundtrack of a voyage through space and everything it represents – the emptiness and the fullness. Micro-tonalities gravitate and leave us in static before the sound waves that fill the universe. The cosmos, nebulae and aurora borealis saw through a sonic telescope made of abstract frequencies, that could prolong into eternity like a Buddha Machine. In ‘Onyx’, time advances at light speed only to land in a future inhabited by machines, cold magnetic sounds that collide with the dirty steel of robots. All the speeches are strange, indefinite, leaving behind only minimalisms which end up dominating us in an almost hypnotic manner. An invasion with license to travel (to dream)…» - Pedro Nunes

after a 1.5 year-long hiatus, sublogic returns to bring you one of its most experimental releases so far. no manner of comparison can truly be made, but this one manages to supersede 2GI’s release in all it’s oddness.

so are the works of richard sudney a.k.a. monopole. his procedure for musical creation involves such diverse elements as recording sounds in the field on the slightly frayed edges of civilization, manipulation of micro-samples, and abusing ancient equipment not originally intended for use in a music studio. monopole hails from the world techno capital, but has been influenced by more than just the music associated with his geographical position on the globe. all in all, this results in music that is barely describable as anything but indescribable, and simply has to be heard.

the first two tracks are the “floaty” ones: noises and voices in the distance, mixed with eerie strings, accompanied by a minimal electronic rhythm that can hardly keep itself together. it takes some time to get used to (unless of coarse, you listen to this kind of music all the time), but then picks you up and takes you along, borne on its apparent emptiness.

the latter couple are the reasons this release appears on routine instead of flow, as they introduce beats your head can follow. at least “here, once again” features something that resembles a more usual 4/4 pattern, or at least beats that are of equal length. “across the wire” drops this approach, but continues that flow (bad choice of words there, i know) in its own way, and eventually finds itself going silent.

the word “dub” probably ought to be used in this shred of text. so dub. there. dubbity dub. listen without distraction.

oh, and do leave a message, and let the world know what you got from it. also, do check back to see this place brought back to life; more new music is on its way here, hoping to be received with many, many open arms.

First work for Sinergy-Networks by Alex Van Heerden, musician and producer coming from City of the Cabo (South Africa) and with habitual residence in Stockholm. Altogether eight cuts that demonstrate the great musical capacity of this craftsman of academic formation, an authentic explorer in search of new borders for music with an original and extremely elegant sound.
A brilliant work, deep, full of recondite landscapes and served with great doses of eclecticism. With a layer of fine minimal tech as base platform, Heerden adds the right measured of dub, funk, jazz and experimentation and demonstrates his ability to work between analog and digital, between Africa-Jamaica and Berlin.
Warm emotions fused perfectly with the hypnosis that provides sutile atmospheres, the echoes and the harmonic structures, complex but very seductive and full of very small details with care.
Heerden collaborates habitually with producers of the Scandinavian scene, in this occasion with Magnus Bank in “Nefertiti” enters a glitch and jazz aesthetic. On the other hand the collaboration with Hakan Lidbo contributes a new context to tech-dub, impregnated of space jazz. Each instrument, each click and each blow seem to be in consonance within its space and time to obtain an atemporal work that it is possible to be enjoyed in as many forms as its presented.
Without waste.

[from Netlabels & News]

Despite its title, you will not have to do too much thinking to tune into “Reflexion”: Four blistering tracks boiled in Pablo Akaros’ burning-hot voodoo soup, bubbling to the surface like volcanic acid, brimming with nervous bass bounces, brittle microtunes and a bonanza of ballistic hihatpatterns incessantly pushing each other forward. Metallic plates collide with folded paper and alien morse code on “Descomponer” and tracks like “Frankeo Pagado” seem to go on forever – reaching higher adrenalin levels with every sweaty completion of each cycle.

Annual entertainment festival releases new compilation with more than 3GB of music from emerging artists.

Last year I stumbled accross a worthwhile music compilation made available for free BitTorrent downlaod by teh folks over at the annual South by Southwest Music and Media Conference & Festival event in Austin, Texas. It’s that time of year again with just as large a swath of new music as before, and no doubt filled with as just as many brilliant emerging artists.
As I mentioned before, South by Southwest is a private company based in Austin, Texas that produces and creates conference and festival events for entertainment and related media industry professionals. For 20 years now SXSW has been producing the annual Music and Media Conference & Festival there, of which the last 3 it has been making songs from emerging artists available for free BitTorrent downlaod for music fans to listen to and spread word about the ones they enjoy.
What better way to advertise new music then for free downlaod using P2P right?
I haven’t had a chance to downlaod the entire thing myself just yet, but so far teh tracks I have are just as good of quality as the ones from last year.
Enjoy.
