Crispy Hip Hop | The Apes on Tapes are a producer-duo from the City of Bologna in the North of Italy. Lagàr and Antanis, as they call themselves, met in 2005 and immediately found their talents for atmosphere and melody (Antanis) and straightforward beats (Lagàr) mixing up to something special. Did I mention we’re talking about dope instrumental Hip Hop? Drop your knees for the Apes.
Like in a perfect marriage, after two years, Apes on Tapes have their second little “monkey-kid”! Not exactly a little one, since this is what can be called a real full length album, composed of 13 tracks, running through more than one year of productions. Homework Records and Apes on Tapes proudly present “You Open”: a 40 minutes trip, aiming to fuse old school hip hop, classical samples, abstract-glitchy ideas, in an groovy song format. Definitely not a “uniquely for nerd electronicists” product, “You Open” aims to a larger range of people’s IPods, purposing pure instrumental hip hop tracks beside some more pop-approached songs: heavy beats and pianos, rap vocal takes and classical guitars.
