It’s time to present the 4th release at Phonotactics, this time we travel to Venezuela, in the capital Caracas is where Burguez operates its sonorous revolutions, with a pentium 3 and some tricks up his sleeve this Venezuelan takes us through his well defined cinematographic universe of loops and rythms, seasoned by his collaborative work under the moniker An3stesia where his beats mark the rhythm for some dreggy mc’s. Candelatown is a groovy dark chilled homage to “La Candelaria” the quarter in the city of Caracas where Burguez grew up. Now its time to let the Burguez “King” play in your home stereo modern artifacts.

Ursprünglich sollte das Stück “Folge Mir” des Synthiepop/EBM-Projektes Pitch Black Inc. als Single im klassischen Sinne mit zwei oder drei Remixen veröffentlicht werden, um die Wartezeit bis zum in Arbeit befindlichen Album zu überbrücken.

Daher wurden diverse Musiker gebeten, diese Arbeit zu modellieren und ihnen dabei vollkommen freie Hand gelassen. Doch schon bei den ersten vorliegenden Produktionen interessierter Künstler - u.a. nahmen sich Musiker wie AD:Key [Armageddon Dildos], Kenji Siratori [japanischer Cyberpunkautor und -musiker] oder Reb [Ex- The Bates] des Stückes an - war absehbar, das es sich nicht nur um Remixmaterial im eigentlichen Sinne, sondern auch um eigenständige Versionen handelte.

Das fertige Produkt ist eine Gratwanderung, weil es sicherlich ungewöhnlich und nicht alltäglich ist, dem Hörer eine CD mit unterschiedlichsten Stilrichtungen – von EBM über Avantgarde bis hin zu Trip Hop und Folk anzubieten, noch dazu basierend auf einem einzigen Stück. Gratwanderung auch, weil es eine Reise, eine Art Wanderung durch die verschiedensten Gefühlswelten ist, die einen musikalischen roten Faden bewusst vermissen lässt.

Trotz des Textes - als eigentlich einzig gemeinsamen Nenner - ist es unter Mitwirkung der beteiligten Künstler dennoch gelungen, ein atmosphärisch dichtes Werk zu präsentieren.

Complementary Distribution netlabel welcomes Anton Holota from Ukraine on its 18th release. This young and really creative artist whose discography is expanding day by day regards his new album titled Products of Passed Days as an audio collection in which the listener can meet his biggest artistic ‘peaks’ so far.

The 12 tracks offer anything that a good glitch ambient pieces have to: fragmented emotional audio atmospheres moving back and forth from the dimensions of musical and non-musical harmonies, and carefully inserted field recordings, broken by sometimes childish and innocent melodies that echo and deform through the complex possibilities of digital sound processes.

The artwork was made by Karex, a Hungarian artist who deejays under the name Plesiv, and has also created the cover artwork of some previous Cod releases such as SG Sound Comp or Ferenc Vaspoeri’s Esplanade.

Enjoy this release, think about why you enjoy it, and then think about why you think that!

Archipel, for it’s 37th digital release, is happy to welcome Zentex to its roster who brings us “Fiilis”, four slabs of extra swingy, smooth funk for your contortionist heart.

Title track “Fiilis” is a solid ever growing formation of warm fuzzy funk. Reverberating chords carry a delicate and detailed border or tightly woven glassy shards which all wraps around a puchy field of low end feeling.

“Tino” winds a wire of swing even tighter still around snappy rolling elements and molten plastic vocals on an ultra heavy bed of low slung wobblets. “Ruoska” takes a distinctively more hypnotic and spacey route where evolution and repetition reign strong, accented with paranoid vocalizations and slinky, heady acidic moans.

“Ask Who” is a bending slice of psyched funk with squelchy timbres encapsulating only the deepest and warmest of substances.

Mirko Ruckels returns to Lunar Flower with the new Deepspace album, Subantarctic Sessions. If The Barometric Sun was Ruckelss representation of an epic interstellar voyage, then Subantarctic Sessions is his brazen attempt to capture the meditative experience of remaining in a single, self-contained environment.

The album opener, Arctic Sun and Weather Experiment, employs a fitting title. The track begins as if the listener is standing affixed in the middle of an Arctic wind, staring unabashedly at the simmering sun, unable to move. Swirling synth-scapes imitate the freezing atmosphere as a gorgeous piano motif cycles through the center of the mix, and the effect is one of trance-inducing ambience.

Ruckelss impressionistic tendencies continue with Subantarctic Phenomena, a more brooding exploration of his wintry environment marked by a low pulsating tone, and Voyaging Iceberg, which begins as a careening, varied extension of its predecessor, but quickly evolves into a bright soundscape filled with phasing synth lines and shimmering beauty.

Crysanthenum Planet is perhaps the most mellow of all the tracks on Subantarctic Sessions. Its playfully whistling tones approach the serenity of a lullaby, and the piece can be viewed as the albums daydream-interlude.

Mirror Sea is a glistening, enchanted soundscape that eases the album back into a contemplative mood, only to deposit the listener into the next track, Deserted. With its glacially evolving tones forging several repetitive, yearning themes at the center of the piece, Deserted recasts the listener as a lonely wanderer in this land of ice.

Not to be overtaken by the harsh environment depicted in previous tracks, Ruckels ends his Deepspace album with Crustacea Parklands, a hopeful, forward-looking reprise of Arctic Sun and Weather Experiment. The panning tones of Crustacea Parklands continuously burst into an array of spectral effects, reminding the listener that the Subantarctic sun shines on triumphantly, even if it lives in the coldest, most unbearable place on earth.
