Velure. What might be mistaken for a precisely wrought fabric resembling velvet in feeling isn’t the same at all. And yet, in a way it is. The Australian quintet are not only the latest addition to the iD.EOLOGY repertoire but have also packed five songs, as intricately produced as smoothly composed, into a box wrapped up in silk.
Although touching on d’n'b, trip-hop and dub with virtuosity, Velure never fail to put the emphasis on ’songs’ here. The enticing vocals of Lynnelle Moran carry motifs of dark ethereal beauty over tracks carefully woven from electrifying synth-sounds, elaborate drum-patterns and vibrant guitars.
Get into a snuggle with this slick material and you’ll know what it’s all about:

Episode two of “Oh Penny Record” — A series devoted to free Creative Commons music.
OPR002 was initally (a few weeks back) going to be dedicated entirely to anti-genre netlabel Sweet Smelling Surfaces—they’ve definitely got enough goodies—but along the way I got a little side-tracked…

Discovering music via Myspace is a bit of a game of chance. Most of the Friends Requests® I use to get are pure rubbish, but every now and then talented musicians dare to be heard. I the case of Gillicuddy, artist-name and album- title didn’t made me expect too much. Still, after the first few tones of this tiny EP I knew Gillicuddy would be worth to be heard by a greater audience.

D-Fault is the collaboration Experimental/IDM project of Maayan Peer (aka Black Mizi Pro Duck Sun) and Yaron Eshkar (aka Faxi Nadu / Elmooht), both hailing from Israel. The vast array of musical influences between the artists, and at times the clash between them, brings about an interesting collaboration, rich in flavor and content. D-Fault packs in both the raw power and warmth of the analog world, with the clarity and precision of the digital DSP domain. Hi-tech broken grooves, chopped up melodies and sizzling digital effects, exploring the limits of creativity. Dark, psychedelic and disturbing, yet vaguely optimistic, giving D-Fault a fresh, yet nostalgic appeal.
