Indie Rock/Pop from France
Info
Another Record is a small French record label that uses CC-licences as a promotion tool.
Because their music can be shared freely, the attention to their artists and their physical releases is growing.
In the end of February they have released a nice compilation called “Sweets For The Wild 3”, where you can find various kinds of indie rock/pop music ranging from melancholic singer/songwriter to experimental, psychedelic pop songs and guitar-driven indie rock.
“Sweets For The Wild 3” comes along as a double-album featuring 22 songs by 22 artists.
Because most of the bands are French, you can gain a pretty interesting insight to the French indie scene.
All songs are well produced and of high quality. While most of the songs are easy to follow, some of them need some time to get used to, so be patient. One thing is for sure: your patience will be rewarded, because there is a lot to discover: new and upcoming bands and more importantly, a lot of interesting approaches towards pop music.
“Sweets For The Wild 3” is freely available as MP3 and OGG and while you are surfing the Another Record Website, make sure to check out their other releases, too.

Lucette Bourdin is rapidly emerging as one of the brightest stars in the panoply of new ambient artists that have come along since the start of the new century. Her distinctive musical voice, combined with her well established artistic vision in artforms outside the realm of music, gives her recordings a unique and refreshing flavor … and more than a little depth and scope.
Her latest effort, entitled Timeless Shore, is a beautiful case in point.
Essentially a single 70 minute ambient long play, Timeless Shore is available in two editions: the uncut full length version (called the Extended Version), and a shortened edit that communicates nearly as much as the full length piece but in a ‘mere’ 45 minutes.
We love the irony, of course, that this shortened edit of the original piece still fully qualifies as a longform piece even unto itself. A brilliant touch. This is ambient music folks - deep immersion requires some time to achieve.
And achieve it she does.
We could attempt to describe the music to you here, using lots of adjectives and flowery language, but ultimately we would fail. Suffice it to say that Timeless Shore is a masterful demonstration of Lucette Bourdin’s brilliant ambient talents, and we would be hard pressed to point to a better release in 2008.

Perhaps the most celebrated techno DJ in the world, Hawtin has been at the cutting edge of dance music for more than a decade-and-a-half. Despite being organic, and a combination patched with conga and a fine melody line, the album initial IN and OUT can not ignore the intensity of the composition and the dark, metallic sounding that accompanies the music.
The following Paraphonic is a gradual decline into a thicker, less sculpturesque and dematerialized musicality, whose shape is still keeping its frames.
The industrial sonority presented with bitter-sweet nostalgy of The Wait is only a transition to the album final 2012, which, in one track, integrates radical closure, organicity, constructivity and all that may give techno a chance to step out of the circle of its own, often negligent reproductions.

For week 6 of the kahvi sound sessions I have prepared a little preasent for everyone to enjoy
A full 60 minute mix! Featuring some very soothing sounds this round will offer some complex beats matched with some ethreal pleasures. The mix starts off with Alkor’s awesome ambient track “The Background” and ends with Jasinski’s downtempo/minimal track “Single file lines”. While browsing Youtube for interesting trance-related content I came across this excellent music video for Lost In Translation by the genre-defying New Zealand group Pitch Black. The song is taken from their album Ape To Angel, originally released in 2004. The video is quite tasteful—unlike a lot of the rubbish that floats around the trance scene. I really like the distinctive visual aesthetic in use here—it meshes well with the music and shows the producers in action but doesn’t overdo anything. Flash is required to view this video:
While we’re on the subject, don’t miss out on Pitch Black’s latest album Rude Mechanicals; it has been in regular rotation around here for months now and shows no sign of losing its lustre. I hope to get to a full review soon, but the short version is that I heartily recommend it for anyone seeking something a little different from the norm. They’ve also got a video out for the title track, but this one might be a little more inaccessible for trance fans than Lost In Translation. Check it out if you’re up for some deep dubby rhythms and ecologically conscious lyrics.

ehhh is the name of the the new realease of Diego Cadierno in his debut with escala. An electro-minimalist tune full of rhythm and for sure will not dissapoint to lovers of the sessions of this young dj from León now based in Madrid. So, this is one of the escala releases most focused to the dancefloor, to demostrate this you just only need to listen tunes like âBlack Boxâ or âBluzbolâ, ideal for tyhe last hours of the night. And if you want to listen to him in direct, do not doubt to go to some of the Cadiernoâs sessions, habitually in algoennegro, in Madrid.
