This week on the pod, Sascha Dive provides some deep vibes.

If you want to talk about truth in advertising, look no further than Sascha Dive’s label Deep Vibes. Dive began the imprint in 2006 and has been focused on releasing the deepest house he can find (or produce) ever since. Clearly, young Sascha has his finger on the pulse: along with Oslo and Drumpoet Community, Deep Vibes has quickly become an acknowledged leader when it comes to the revival of deep house in Germany’s club scene.

Production-wise, RA’s Ronan Fitzgerald has pointed out that Dive is nothing if not straightforward: track titles veer towards the descriptive: ‘Deep in Rhythm’, ‘DEep’, ‘Deepest America’ and the music is similarly functional. The key to Dive’s appeal, as Fitzgerald points out, is that Dive never lets things get sterile.

On his RA podcast, you’ll get much the same: Dive works his way through a 72-minute set that doesn’t so much have peaks and valleys as it simply floats along with cut after cut of dark and, yes, deep vibes—whether he is spinning Dan Bell’s old-school minimalism, Manny Diaz’s svelte and sexy ‘Sleezy, Please Me’ or Moodymann’s funky epics. Be prepared to get hypnotized.

How did you get into electronic music?

I got my first contact with electronic music in the early ‘90s. My brothers gave some tapes with the hottest shit from the UK, like DJ Duke, Culture Beat, etc. Really multifaceted music. After that, I decided to go to some clubs around Frankfurt like the Robert Johnson, Monza (old Monza). Another big influence was the Freebase record store.

When and why did you start Deep Vibes?

I started Deep Vibes in 2006. The idea for the label was to bring out some really deep and dark US house inspired tracks.

What have you been working on recently?

I’m working now on the new Deep Vibes Recordings release, the Basic Collective EP Part 3. I hope it will be finished before summer. I also just finished remixes for The Asphalt, Two Amadillos & the 1.000.000 Remix for Goldwill.

Where / how was the mix recorded?

The mix was recorded at my label office. I used two Technics SL-1200MK2’s, a CD player from Technics (SL-DZ1200) and my Allen & Heath Xone 62.

Numazu make their debut on Rope Swing Cities with a collection of beautiful and hypnotic music for your soul. The sixteen tracks run the gamut of sound from minimal soundscapes and field recordings, to post-rock interludes and dreamy jazz jams. Rope Swing Cities is honored to be releasing one of the most versatile and compelling albums of experimental music that we’ve heard in some time.

Numazu is comprised mainly of Kirill Nikolai and Derrick Hart, as the masterminds of the experiment they have surrounded themselves with a wealth of talented guest artists (Justin Robert, Haruki, Mariko Sugawara, Jay Demko, Kate Morris & Joey Halter.), who help to round out the sound of the band. Alternately contemplative and dissonant, the album holds the listeners interest through each subsequent listen, as new sounds, voices and melodies creep out of the musical ether, creating a forest of sound, ripe for exploration.

Numazu represents an expert blending of laptop orchestrations and talented analog musicians. By bridging this gap, Numazu finds its own place to stand in the landscape of modern experimental composers, entering a space which is scantily populated. We hope you love this album as much as we have, and that it finds a special place in not only your music collection, but your heart. Enjoy!

In addition to the full web release of Numazu’s new album, there are limited edition professionally produced CDs packaged in handmade cases available for a nominal fee in our store. And even more! Numazu front men Kirill and Derrick appeared alongside contributors Justin Robert and Kate Morris at the first ever Rope Swing Cities showcase, and it was quite a powerful show. If you were unable to make it to the show, the video taped performance is available here. And if you still haven’t gotten enough Numazumania after that, well then we think you should probably go over here.

A new guest artist - Meso - arrives today with a nine track ep. A little more hardcore idm in places than previous kahvi releases, Meso brings out the colder and darker side of life in Eastern Europe with the arovane-esque ‘around 492′, a classy imitation of lackluster style in ‘canadian 2′, and my personal favorite for its curious composition ‘jenapart6′ (check out the percussion!). Brusque, exciting and interesting, ‘Tunga’ is an intriguing and well produced ep, a worthwhile addition to the kahvi collective.

Monotonik has made it to its 200th MP3-based release (and probably somewhere over its 400th overall release, counting sublabels and .MODs), and this milestone comes in the form of Chromatic Flights’ second release for the label, ‘Heavy Stars Will Fall’.

Florida-based Kyle Wyss follows up his ‘Memories From The Audible Color Wheel’ Monotonik debut with more vaguely psychedelic, beautifully phrased idm, strangely strung out but wonderfully put together. It starts with ‘Found Glow’, all spaced out groove and smiling pauses.

Other standout tracks include ‘Fish Follow Shine’, with pulsating top notes and a strangely offkilter groove, and the echoing strange beauty of ‘Blue Supergiant’, although any of the 8 tracks can be sampled on its own for much enjoyment. A fitting release for the milestone!

Wireman is the production name of Glasgow based producer Andrew Langfield.

Inspired by life, science fiction and electronic music of every genre Andrew’s Bass heavy productions are rooted in techno, infused with a dirty acid undercurrent and a love for deep, dubbed out sound-scapes.

On the foundations of solid grooves and glitched broken rhythms, Andrew forges a sound that encompasses harsh metallic textures and synthetic ambient drones all played over a backdrop of dusty circuitry, static, crackle and hum.

The future will see the continued development of this sound. Deep, bass heavy music that blur’s the lines between Techno, Dub-step and IDM.

Wireman has chosen tracks by artists whom he feels have influenced him into making music, artists whose music he loves and respects.

Pop on laridae? Yes - Pop on laridae! Why? Because we’re not afraid of it. Not afraid to lull our listeners (you!) into a steady state of romantic melancholy. And how will we do this?
