Fresh from his successes on Planet-Mu, Barry has given us this nice little slice from his past.

From Barry - “I made Koss, 98 Loop and Rhodes Draft in 1998 right after I got my first PC for doing tunes on. I was heavily into DJ Shadow so I wanted to try putting tracks together from samples of old vinyl, which I already had a decent sized collection of thanks to my Dad. I also spent ages going through all the record shops in Belfast looking for old jazz and soundtracks and stuff like that to sample when I first started university. I still like the tracks, probably cos I still like the source material. There’s a version of Koss with a nice Hendrixy guitar solo but the rest of the track is a mess so you get the more chilled version here.

The other two tracks were done digitally in reaktor 3 and were made a bit after.

“Ambient Architextures 2″ verstärkt behutsam ein samtiges Gefühl des Dahergleitens. Mit einem Fokus auf weder verstörende, noch ablenkende, sondern einfach nur angenehme poppige Ambient-Musik vermittelt der Mix ein wohliges Raumgefühl.

Ambient bietet sich in diesem Sinne als eine hervorragende Möglichkeit Musik zu funktionalisieren. Klingt schrecklich, ist es aber nicht, weil wir Musik hier Träger für Gefühle und generelle Ablenkung benutzen. Darum entwickelt sich der Mix mit seinen sanften Überblendungen in relaxter Atmosphäre und immer mit einem zwinkernden Auge Richtung Pop. Wir Kölner, betiteln das auch dann gerne mal als “Pop Ambient”.

If you haven’t yet had a chance to listen to Part 1 of this album then it’s about time you did! The first tracks have already been highly praised both on this site and around the netlabel community and this second half of the selection should garner similarly positive remarks.

We’re again in the hands of Cheese - rapper, producer and turntablist extraordinaire, as well as partner in crime High Snow (possibly the first Japanese rapper you will ever have heard).

After that things moved quick for Yoni - after DJ’ing for years, he teamed up with his friend Dj Goblin to form the Children of the doc project which later changed name to PSYSEX - together they released 3 critically-acclaimed full length albums on HOMmega, and played a big part in establishing Israel as one of the most important trance-countries on the globe.

After several years of intense touring, playing at some of the biggest parties and festivals worldwide, Yoni’s taste moved more and more towards the slower, groovier side of music though, and from 2006 he is no longer a part of the Psysex project. Instead he has started 2 new projects: SCHATSI, which is an electro-project, already getting featured on releases from Hadshot and Mylo’s Breastfed Recordings, while being spined by the likes of Jhon Digweed, and of course, ACE VENTURA. Yoni is fond of all major sides of the progressive scene, and it shines through in his Ace ventura project, which best can be described as deep, tribal and pumping progressive psytrance - pure dynamite on the dance floor.
Despite being a relatively new project, ACE VENTURA has already toured extensivley around the globe,and appeared on releases from Flow, Domo, Echoes, Blue tunes, Spintwist, HOMmega and of course Iboga, while being remixed by Zen mechanics, Perfect Stranger, Aerospace, Sensient, Bluetech, Khainz,Peter Gun, XVKillist & Rocco, Gaudium and more. In 2007 he compiled the 1st progressive compilation on famed fullon-trance label HOMmega - NEW ORDER, featuring tracks from the best artists the progressive scene has to offer. Official work on the sequel, New order 2 ,has begun as well. Release date is planned for late 2008,and will be more techno oriented this time around….

On september 2007 the debut Ace ventura album,REBIRTH was finally released on Iboga records. It featured 9 tracks and included collaborations with Liquid soul,Intelabeam and Lish. The rebirth tour has kicked off in Brazil, and will continue through Israel,Switzerland,Italy,Hungary,Greece,Denmark,Holland,Portugal,Belgium, Germany, Sweden and Australia.
Watch out for the Ace ventura Remix album, to be released on Iboga records this summer….

Es ist Sonntagmorgen, 6.00 Uhr. Alle die jetzt in der Stadt unterwegs sind, sind entweder die Übergebliebenen der letzten Nacht, so wie ich, jene die ohnehin immer keinen Schlaf finden oder
überzeugte Frühaufsteher. Die große Straße, auf der ich unterwegs bin, reicht geradelang bis zum Horizont. Da verschwindet sie im Sonnenaufgang. Sie ist nass, es muss geregnet haben - jetzt ist es warm. Dunst steigt vom sich langsam wärmenden Asphalt auf und verwischt das Bild der orangen Sonne. Ich habe Lust auf einen Kaffee. Auf einen guten Kaffee, so wie ihn das kleine Kaffeehaus im Stadtinneren den macht mit seiner Espressomaschine, die schon älter sein muss als ich. Vielleicht trifft man ein paar Bekannte, kann draußen sitzen, etwas reden und den Weinrausch der Nacht loswerden. Vielleicht gibt es ja auch wieder diesen Deejay, der die Leute in den Tag begleitet, sie den Stress der Nacht vergessen macht mit seiner ganz eigenen Definition von Musik, wie sie in ein Kaffeehaus gehört. Ambientes, Jazz, broken Beats, viel Organisches, Dub, Gitarren, Gesang und eine Priese Elektronika. Musik so warm, wie der leckere Kaffee von innen, und die aufgehende Sonne von außen. Ja, vielleicht habe ich Glück und er versüßt mit den Kaffee ganz ohne Zucker.

Ich kann ihn schon von draußen sehen. Er sieht besser aus als ich. Wahrscheinlich hat er letzte Nacht entweder geschlafen oder einfach weniger getrunken. Ich bestelle einen Latte macchiato, bitte um einen Aschenbecher und setze mich in den kleinen Garten im Hinterhof, wo auch andere schon sitzen. Die Anlage hat hier draußen hat eine angenehme Lautstärke. Ich nehme mir keine Zeitung. Ich will die Musik ganz bewusst genießen.

Es kommt niemand, den ich kenne, niemand mit dem ich reden müsste, der mir die Zeit für die Musik nehmen würde. Nach drei weiteren Kaffees will ich endlich in mein Bett. Als „deluges“ - „The Crush“ ausläuft verlasse ich mit einem Lächeln den kleinen Laden. Einer der schönsten Sonntagmorgen seit langem.
