[LPR014] All The Hats – Unite EP (2009)

November 1, 2009 · Leave a Comment

http://ia311040.us.archive.org/2/items/LPR014/LPR014_thumb.jpg

ALL THE HATS (also known as ATH) is a four piece band that took its first musical steps in the local scene of Rosario/Argentina in 2001.Their members used to play in different punk rock groups from the area. Shortly after, they released their first album “Rent a Hat and Join Us”, an EP with 5 songs all sung in english. At that time their sound was mostly influenced by the likes of Social Distortion, The Clash and Rancid, just to name a few.In 2003, following extensive touring and live shows, the band finished recording their first full length album, titled “No Signal”.This CD was distributed not only nationwide in Argentina, but also in Chile, Uruguay, Peru, and Brazil. This allowed the band to make its first visit abroad in 2003, as they travelled for three concerts to Chile.

At the same time they re-edited their debut EP with two bonus tracks. In 2004 they continued to play numerous live shows across Argentina, greeted by an ever more enthusiastic audience. In 2005 the band released “Stand Your Underground”, a compilation that includes their previous albums , as well as unreleased material. The album was released on Pinhead Records (independent record label from Argentina), and was accompanied by their first video clip. Finally, in late 2006 the band released their latest work, titled “Red, Black, and White” with 10 tracks, 7 of which are sung completely in Spanish.

Their songs were included in several compilations and the band did the following international tours (untill the present): Chile (sept.2003)/ Brasil (dic.2004) / Perú (oct.2006) / Brasil (jun-jul.2007) / Chile(oct.2008) / Holland+Germany(oct.2009).

They toured all over their country, from small clubs to big crowds, sharing stages with the most significant bands from Argentina and also with international guests like The Bouncing Souls and Down By Law.

Right now ATH is working on brand new material; you can check 2 new songs on their MySpace or download the mp3 from Lepork Records. Their music evolved up to a different point, maintaining their essence but improving with an extended musical baggage, life´s experiencies and personal visions. In the beggining of 2010 they´ll record the new album.

[ca305] Rebe – La Maquina Olvidad (2009)

Rebeca makes the music her heart tells her to make. She stands for hope, happiness, and harmony. She believes in standing up for what is right. and that what is right is not in question, indivisible, under God. Rebecas native language is Spanish, and she has thankfully assisted me in the work of translating the lyrics into English, to be useful to peoples whose first language is English.

Free Albums Galore » Lucy’s Fur Coat – two albums

August 31, 2009 · Leave a Comment

from Free Albums Galore by Marvin

I really never thought of San Diego as a rock haven. Their almost perfect weather and laid back beaches just don’t seem as influential to hard edge rock, at least not compared to smoggy Los Angeles, cloud-covered Seattle, and hard living New York. Yet if Lucy’s Fur Coat is an example, I may be selling the city short. This now defunct band has a much more than acceptable hard-core sound of alternative and grunge with catchy guitar hooks and tense vocals. Their two albums can still be purchased over at Amazon or, as their web site states, “occasionally be found in the $1 bin at the used CD store”. However the guys have generously provided both albums as free and legal downloads so you can check out their tight and entertaining music. The two albums are titled Jaundice and How To Survive An Aircrash. I think Aircrash has the better combinations of rock and emotion. I especially like the ballad “El Cajon” and the harder rocking “Light Sensitive” and “Water Gun”. Jaundice also has some nice tracks but sounds a bit more like SoCal metal. Still, you will like both albums if you are into rock.

Both albums are available in 192kbps MP3. Remember. If you like the music buy the CDs.

[LostChildren072] Fugue – Ancient Glass (2009)

August 28, 2009 · 1 Comment

http://ia301519.us.archive.org/1/items/LostChildren072/LostChildren072.jpg

Fugue presents an arduous journey through a quagmire of genre confusion and deceivingly orchestrated pieces of music. Love, time and a soft spot for over-complication gave birth to their first effort that is full of everything they think makes music great. There’s something for everyone on this splendid 17 and a half minute adventure through a veritable sonic paradise.

[GdM 030] Sugar Overdose – 7 Different Kinds Of Overdrive (2009)

August 23, 2009 · Leave a Comment

http://ia360909.us.archive.org/3/items/gdm030SugarOverdose-7DifferentKindsOfOverdrive2009/Band_thumb.jpg

[afm050] VA – #50 (2009)

August 7, 2009 · Leave a Comment

http://ia301502.us.archive.org/2/items/afm050_afmusic50/folder_thumb.jpg

Within just one year afmusic got off to a lightning start. The most innovative netlabel in Germany for Darkwave, Gothic and Independent Music celebrates on the label founder Falk Merten’s birthday their release-anniversary and distributes big presents to their fans – and that are 16 in number on this fiftieth publication.

All are on this Anniversary-Compilation “AFMUSIC #50″. Exactly one dozen of it are previously unreleased or recorded exclusively for this release. Beside many known afmusic-acts the sampler also presents an absolutely new band. Therefore, it is less a retrospective, than even more a look in the future of the label.

“AFMUSIC #50″ indicates not only the variety and versatility of the present releases, but also their high musical and artistic quality. LATRISTE – the newest member of the label family – immediately deliver with her first song a potential hit single. SMOKE FISH and EMERALD PARK contribute dark-coloured pop pearls of the grade 1A and CONFUSION IS NEXT are represented, just like LIGHT IN YOUR LIFE with a dreadfully nice ballad. Thereby the music ranges from Shoegaze to the sturdy Alternative rock.

SPINEFISH, (((S))) and ART NOIR provide for the dark sound-collage which hold together “AFMUSIC #50″ and lend a breathtaking atmosphere to the album.

In between the big potential of a lot of afmusic-bands flashes: The label-draught-horses ALL:MY:FAULTS cement with a never been there mixture of 8-bit Postmetal and spoken words their exceptional position as the most innovative German band of the scene. STROMBLE FIX’s “Dispirited” is more progressively Hybrid from Grunge and Deathrock, “Enjoy” of REPTILE71 is more sombre than the legendary “Drowning one” and CAMP Z present a modern version of the Sisters Of Mercy.

Crowning end of the completely successful afmusic-show is the “Smells Like Teen Spirit” cover, which is the most stretching cover with wide distance of this decade.

Amity in Fame – Dinner for One (2008)

July 4, 2009 · Leave a Comment

Amity in Fame

Amity_in_FameThe band plays powerful acoustic rock that is slightly influenced by metal. Some songs are rather fast and going straight, others are very smooth and atmospheric. The band was founded in May 2008 and one year after already played in front of an audience of 3.000 people. The first album, ‘Dinner for One’ was released in July 2008 and is a milestone in modern acoustic rock – at least according to the band-members … well, some of them. It was Jimmy Page himself who said about the band: “‘Amity in fame’? Never heard of them!” If you don’t want to die dumb like Jimmy Page you have to check out their first album right now! The members – all experienced musicians – are:

Fil – guitar / vocals
Roman – bass
Judith – vocals
Willy – drums
Michi – vocals

The band released their first music video in January 2009.

Presently the band is writing songs for the next album and is working on its new music video.

Amity in Fame - Dinner for One

Dinner for One (2008)

A 10-track album with some of the finest songs in acoustic rock-music. It starts with the smart-ass riff based ‘Dinner for One’ (check out the video on youtube – coming in september) with its bombastic finish and one of the best end-screams of music history. This song is followed by the slightly engrossed ‘Haiku’ with a mosh-part you wouldn’t think an acoustic guitar is capable of. The next song, ‘Amity We Should Give’ with its melodic intro brings you down again and the smooth rhythm of the chorus gives you a feeling of lightness. Without going into detail about the following songs, it can be safely said that there are some real pearls of acoustic rock amongst them. Everyone will find some more songs to fall in love with on the album. The closer, ‘Touching your Breath’, finally is a real pleasure for your ears and your mind. It gives the album a warm ending and a feeling of coming home.

Make yourself a big present and download the whole album now!

Free Albums Galore » Kismet – Hiatus (2009)

June 21, 2009 · Leave a Comment

via/by Marvin

Kismet is another good Dutch indie band from the Beep! Beep! Back Up The Truck net label. Kismet has a bit of an edge only slightly mellowed by crisp “Matinee Idol” harmonies. Standouts tracks from their debut full length album titled Hiatus include s”We Are All Busy”, “Holiday” and “TV on”. This is top notched rock and roll of a caliber that amazes even me for a free and legal on-line album.

Hiatus is available from either the Beep! Beep! Back Up The Truck web site or through Jamendo from the link below.

[ca270] pandoras.box – Barriers (2009)

June 7, 2009 · 1 Comment

http://ia301535.us.archive.org/0/items/ca270_pb/ca270_01_front72.jpg

pandoras.box is made up of five like-minded, old friends from the sticks of Lower Bavaria.

The close ties between the eclectic personalities in this group have given rise to a totally different musical slant – a sound in perpetual search of the perfect equilibrium between a collective consciousness, personal gratification and the expression of higher emotions and ineffable common ideals.

Their remarkable, sometimes even evasive space-rock sound has a sober tone which fabricates a feeling of a radically romantic aura that sets pandoras.box apart from the norm in today’s indie landscape. It’s no wonder that the band currently has a strong underground following of enthusiastic fans. Aggressive, gentle, depressive, sanguine, negative, positive, harmonious, cynical and always with a dash of irony: this band is full of contrasts.

pandoras.box expresses a range of different moods and emotions in its chameleonic performances, yet in the end, a compelling, coherent ensemble is created which draws audiences in.

good night: [LostChildren066] From The Sky – Like Crystal in a World of Glass (2009)

May 14, 2009 · Leave a Comment

http://ia301542.us.archive.org/2/items/LostChildren066/LostChildren066.jpg

From The Sky’s second release, mini-album ‘Like Crystal in a World of Glass’, was originally released in 2006 by Sound Devastation records and was well received for the young band. We now re-release ‘Like Crystal…’ on Lost Children in memory of the now defunct band as an accompaniment for their third release, EP ‘A Warm Place With No Memory’, which is also on Lost Children. For those wishing to purchase a CD version of ‘Like Crystal…’, there are still copies available from Sound Devastation here.

A more upbeat and energetic instrumental rock release than many post-rock releases in 2006, it laid the groundwork for From The Sky’s manic and often chaotic shows which commonly ended with the live favourite ‘Someone To Remember’ and very little of the stage left.

This version of ‘Like Crystal…’ also contains the previously unreleased version of ‘Needle Happy Paediatricians’ as a bonus track

[LostChildren067] Tangled Thoughts of Leaving – Tiny Fragments (2009)

May 8, 2009 · Leave a Comment

http://ia301519.us.archive.org/2/items/LostChildren067/LostChildren067.jpg
Tangled Thoughts of Leaving’s music is progressive by nature. The inclusion of sparse influences, guided by concept and fused together, is the conception of their own sound, as each musicians respective inspirations force the collective into unchartered territory.

After several years of existence and growth, mid 2007 saw Tangled Thoughts of Leaving construct themselves a purpose built, make shift creative space.

A medium sized room, dedicated to forward thinking; the birth of new sound. In that very room, what was previously theory, became reality, and so began the Process of four people leaving mediocrity behind them.

In the months of January, February and March of 2008, TToL used their creative space to record a concept, aptly titled ‘Tiny Fragments’. This EP was to represent their current thought process. They gave themselves a series of themes, ideas from a previously recorded improvisation and a set amount of time. What followed was roughly 3 months of sporadic sessions, in which the 18 minute, 3 part title track was written and recorded.

With the creation of Tiny Fragments the band have demonstrated that they would rather risk potential failure than never pursue the invention of interesting art. Tiny Fragments was an experiment and is the final step before they put a short lived emphasis on live performance, then return to the studio to record their debut album.

If you would like a CD version of ‘Tiny Fragments’, you can order one from here.

Claire Tchaikowski

April 13, 2009 · Leave a Comment

http://i264.photobucket.com/albums/ii180/kanonte/claire/imgtop.jpg

Claire was born and grew up at the foot of the Alps in Switzerland, with an Irish Mum and a half Polish Dad. She moved to London 10 years ago to study music. A lot of songwriting and band practice later, she met producer and founder of Ambiguous Records, Al Mobbs, who began defining the sound of her record, and co-writing songs. And they drank a lot of tea in Al’s kitchen.

After working together for a short while, Claire met producer Mike Hedges, who mentored and supported her and Al for a few years, and answered baffled phone calls from Claire, until she eventually, one day, knew what she was doing.

Mike has just finished producing her debut album, Those Thousand Seas, also co-writing a few tracks, along with Al producing on two tracks. Other co-writers include Al, Sally Herbert (who arranged all the strings as well), and Shelly Poole. See the “Credits” blog for all details of who did what…

The artwork is the result of Claire being a huge fan of Anna Nightingale (www.annanightingale.com) and her paintings, and Anna being gracious and amused enough to let Claire play with photoshop to climb into the paintings, and settle down in them… They have been friends and fans of eachother’s work for many years, and found there was a similar sensitivity in their work, beyond the boundaries of our visual and auditive senses.

Claire is now signed to publisher Denis Ingoldsby (Appleby/Universal Publishing), and loving introducing her album to you.
