Electronica Podcast — Episode 6: Anton Zap

Anton Zap was born in Moscow in 1979. He studied Chinese for 7 years and then embarked on a 2 year sound engineering course. He started collecting wax from a very young age and in the mid 90’s he joined Moscow’s underground lounge group, Tetris, led by Vlad Lozinsky. He was resident dj at one of Moscow’s leading clubs, Propaganda from 1997—2005 . He later started his own band, Papaztrio alongside Pavel Hotin and Yuriy Shulgin . He hooked up with Edward Mckeithen aka Dj Jus Ed via myspace and that led to releases on Underground Quality which brought him to the attention of the record buyers, press and record shops alike. This in turn led to releases on Dubby man’s Deep Explorer imprint as well as noted releases on Quintessentials. More releases are planned on the much loved Millions of Moments label as well as on danish imprint, Kontra Musik and a storming remix for an upcoming benjamin Brunn & workshop’s wunderkind, Even Tuell on Uzuri Recordings. He made his dj debut outside of Russia @ Berlin’s revered dance institution, Panorama bar on the 17th January 2009.

Two years of regular immersions have made deeplimit a competent pilot of deep-water techno-music. The endorsement of it is the release, by which the musicians are summing up two-years voyage.

The purified sound without any bustle and haste. The beginning is ambient, incredibly atmospheric and placatory insensibly dispose us the contemplating harmony and make us throw off all our troubles and look into ourselves.

Several more minutes of making up our mind and we irrevocably find ourselves into the power of velvet bass lines and charming percussions. The immersion is occurring imperceptibly, but very fast we are caught up and carried away by the rhythmical underwater flow, track after track, that is taking away to reveal deep techno mysteries.

In the beginning, there was a white board and an – apparently – pretty average guy out of the calm swabian country-side processing it with a marker. Initially, his music is being created visually, like some kind of circuit diagram, eventually releasing pure energy.

All samples are home-made and processed with analogue devices exclusively. Tracks being recorded in one row and everything has to be in place. André Noller treats his sounds in a very affectionate and well-crafted way though just actively producing music since 4 years. His very first release features a parade of virgin but old-school sounds – deep, sexy, and most of all, with a lot of groove.
