“Originally from Greystones, a seaside village near Dublin, and now based in Berlin, Mano Le Tough makes disco influenced house music which is characterized by an emphasis on melody and emotion. Mano released his “warhorn e.p.” on Prins Thomas’ Internasjonal imprint in 2009 and has also released tracks on District of Corruption. More exciting releases are lined up in the coming months, a 12″ in December 2009 on Mirau musik featuring Tensnake and Azari & III remixes as well as a second 12″ on Internasjonal with a Chateau Flight remix. Also incoming is Mano’s debut album and further 12″s on internasjonal in 2010…
Mano djs and performs live regularly around Europe and has appeared at the Sonar festival in Barcelona and the Electric Picnic and Oxygen festivals in Ireland. He holds down a bi-monthly residency at the Twisted Pepper in Dublin and can also be seen playing very often in Berlin.
Mano likes eating vegetables and reading Ernest Hemingway.”
Thanks to his dad Dica grew up with electronic music by J.M. Jarre, Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schultze, Space, Charlie Mike Sierra, Johan Timman, Alphaville and lots of others.
Strongly influenced by the artists mentioned, Dica found his way to the recordstores and started collecting his own vinyl in the early nineties. After buying one of the first relaeses on Bunker Records a neverending love for underground music was born.
And what’s there to say about the Leiden based DJ/organiser at this time? He’s still just your average guy that loves to play electronic dance music dated from the late seventies till present day. Dica likes to play long sets in which he can combine disco with acid, italo, electro, [chicago/detroit]house and other obscurities not suitable for the narrowminded. Dica also spins his tunes under the name of Klaus Bonnewitz. Aware of the fact that the music industry has been digitalised, he plays vinyl only.

The horrifically dark, enigmatic and twisted side of Lokua. Yet its sublime, and at times tender, finesse makes one wish that the sun never shone and we were eternally trapped in the subterranean dungeon of Lokua’s sick nightmare. The narrative structure of the release is impeccable, and brings together the diverse range of musical material in a very coherent manner.
It has been almost a year and a half since the release of “Trails” most of which he spent honing his craft in a suburban basement on the outskirts of Chicago and performing more then weekly in various Chicago venues. At this point there does not exist a corner of electronic music Lokua has not yet made his own. Many daemons have been unleashed in the process and quite a few extra-terrestrial spirits summoned in order to channel the energy towards a greater musical good that starts out as a soundtrack to your life and slowly becomes life itself.
And oh my, Ghost Disco is like the ultimate dance-floor murderah. Why isn’t this out on vinyl!?!? oh yeah… if only we had the timing down a little better, which we will soon!
the mix is called ‘you’re the one’. i named it after one of my favorite tracks of all times by d-train – ‘you’re the one for me’ which is included on the mix towards the end.
actually i was trying to bring some favorite tunes of mine together from the present and the past ranging from disco to house. so the first track (after the organ intro) by jackson jones from 1980 and slides into a track by rainer trüby from 2009.
besides these 2 tracks and d-train you’ll find tunes by pal joey (who really is one of my heroes), some timeless nu groove records, sounds by rheji burrell as utopia project, some classic westend sounds like shirley lites. also some sharon redd, visual or colonel abrams besides some present funky tunes by 6th borough project, motor city drum ensemble and norma jean bell.
“The EP was created having in mind the more tacky eighties funk, giving it a more current sound using rhythms more marked. Of course, I was influenced by early 90s trance, and I think it shows in whatever i do.”
Set: A stroll around the best and latest of the avant-garde artists and labels; initially we can see Jazz and Disco influences from the artist, to later reveal the finest House and Detroit sounds.
-Related artists: Alex Dallas, Ripperton, Soultourist, Agnes, Hunee.

Part 2 of this 3 part podcast from Emmanuel’s Party Bucket in Leeds, UK takes us deep into the nights selection of New Disco, Funk and 80’s. The mood of the room really lit up as we took the night down this much anticipated path. If one thing was taken away from this party, if not our entire European tour it is the yearning our crowds had from not just “tracks” but SONGS!
This 50 min mix is jam packed with classics, re-edits (even some done on the fly) and a handful of unreleased material due out in the coming months. Sorry again, no track list
Definite treat rather than a trick this one; FACT’s Halloween mix comes courtesy of Chicago’s foremost purveyors of shlock-heavy slasher disco and the first signings to Kompakt boss Michael Mayer’s new label, Gatekeeper.
Relish bod Headman comes correct with a timely trip to the dark side of cosmic. His edit-heavy mix of leftfield italo, mutant disco and spaced-out pop shows lays down a marker for the label’s current state of mind: a new compilation, ‘Relish 2′, features tracks and remixes from Prins Thomas, C90, David Gilmore Girls, Rory Philips and Robi Insinna, aka the Headman himself.
A rare cohesive release for me dedicated fully to the dance floor. Explorations into the classic elements of house, techno, minimal, acid, and disco. Feel free to move!
Having had such a strong year, Manuel Tur jumps on board to mix the latest podcast for us here at mono_cult. With his RIBN project with Langenberg gaining huge support around the globe, and his quirky, deep releases as himself, Manuel has found his place in a very competitive market.
Having just set up the ‘mild pitch’ label alongside Essen bases friends D-play and Langenberg, they are concentrating in pushing the trio’s music to another level. With their aptly named ’slow club’ night in Essen alongside Gerd Janson, these boys seem to have found a niche which is gaining recognition with all the right people.
As with Quarion, we gave Manuel a blank canvas to create a mix that gives everyone an insight into what music he’s liking at the minute. The result is a different, downtempo affair with hints of deep house and disco. Enjoy.
Slick Chick is a 27 year-old disco-freak from Rotterdam. She started playing records about seven years ago. At the time she and her friends were throwing nonprofit parties in dirty warehouses throughout the Netherlands and beyond. Soon she got the hang of it and started to play at her own parties. She played hard and straightforward industrial techno and acid at the time, which originated in England and was spreading over the Dutch squat scene in the late nineties. [...]
