[NS003] Rho – October Turncoat (2009)

mellow electronic / ambient / acoustic music

Rho is childhood friends Steve Setzepfandt and Josh Wittman. No-Source worked with Rho to curate the October Turncoat EP. October Turncoat sets out of show off Rho’s more acoustic side. Each track contains washes of guitar complimented with subtle ambient texture.

The EP often evokes the sounds of early Bibio or “The Campfire Headphase” era Boards of Canada.

Three songs, Simpl, JW2 and The Game of Flowers are all taken from Rho’s 2008 debut, “Breathing Through the Liquid System”. The songs, Long Drive Home and Lightning Strikes and LEDs are taken from Rho’s most recent album “Glass Memories”. The EP contains one previously unreleased track, And More Rain, a 5 minute journey of backwards guitars, subtle picking, drums and end of a season.

I have to say, if you haven’t downloaded anything from SECTION 27 download this now. This has got to be one of the best compliations off of all the netlabels there are. Spanning over clicks n pops, streaming ambient synth rythmns, creepy percs, and right moment pounding kick & bass lines. What more could you ask for? A free download just cause. Well they took care of that too. So what have you got to lose but some hard drive space!

[moment_007] Lokua – Nightmare in Crook County Vol. 1 (2009)

The horrifically dark, enigmatic and twisted side of Lokua. Yet its sublime, and at times tender, finesse makes one wish that the sun never shone and we were eternally trapped in the subterranean dungeon of Lokua’s sick nightmare. The narrative structure of the release is impeccable, and brings together the diverse range of musical material in a very coherent manner.

It has been almost a year and a half since the release of “Trails” most of which he spent honing his craft in a suburban basement on the outskirts of Chicago and performing more then weekly in various Chicago venues. At this point there does not exist a corner of electronic music Lokua has not yet made his own. Many daemons have been unleashed in the process and quite a few extra-terrestrial spirits summoned in order to channel the energy towards a greater musical good that starts out as a soundtrack to your life and slowly becomes life itself.

And oh my, Ghost Disco is like the ultimate dance-floor murderah. Why isn’t this out on vinyl!?!? oh yeah… if only we had the timing down a little better, which we will soon!

[S27-026] Nonima & theAudiologist – Almost Tomorrow (2009)

Almost Tomorrow is the third full length collaboration album from Section 27 Netlabel founders Tam Ferrans and Andrew Paterson, under their Nonima & theAudiologist guise.

This time around the sound is more melodic, and has a definite feeling of a complete and more mature sound than heard on the previous LP’s “Dystopian Battle Hymns” and “Ceremony After Amputation“.

If you are familiar with their individual projects you may even be in for a slight surprise, as the tracks are not as beat driven like before, but are more atmospheric and sound, well… “bigger”. In its 75 minutes, Almost Tomorrow takes you on a trip from the digital rain-soaked cavernous scraping in “Thoughtograph”, the ethereal beat jittering of “The Colour of Rain”, intercepted transmissions from unknown places in “Com-Intercept”, “Ganzfeld”s huge yet strangely insect-like beats until everything you knew comes crashing around you in “Almost Tomorrow”.

Burning pianos, melancholic glitched out soundscapes and intricately programmed beatplay, this may well be their best work to date. Consider it the soundtrack to a rainy overcast day, but with just that glimmer of sunshine peeking from the clouds. “Almost Tomorrow” wears its heart on its sleeve.

[BP047] Eskazed – Overload (2009)

This is Eskazed’s first one net-label release. The album has been started to working at 2007. After a long time work it has finally been finished. Bypass is proud to persent you the “Overload” by Eskazed, an 10-tracks full album genres covered including Downtempo, Abstract hip-hop and Electro.

Eskazed is an electronic music artist from France. He was born in 1985 in Britany (France West Coast) but now he lives in Paris.

Eskazed starts to makes music at the age of 16, with many kinds of influences but particularly with Hip-hop and Electronic music pioneers suchlike the labels of Warp and Ninja Tune. He works as a Audio engineer with many bands of theirs living mix and working for the France national radio as a production. His music discovered a love for Abstract hip-hop, Trip-hop and DJ/cut-up, but recently he evolve with his new influences : hardcore and noise music.

He is also a founding members of the French band Yas & the Lightmotiv.

[LP01] Malaventura – Malaventura 01 (2009)

Meanwhile I finnish the next EP “Earth/Tierra” (last chapter of the “Inner planets” series) here is a little gift to everyone to enjoy malaventura music, discover how everything started…

Released in the Summer of 2003 and re-released now under Creative Commons license, this record was a compendium of track selected from the earlier works of the spanish musician, Malaventura. Produced between 2000 and 2003, mainly with the mythical Akai Mpc2000 and a bunch of vinyls from the flea markets, here is an example of sampledelia, mixing hip-hop with jazz or samba, put in in the same game the tijuana brass and a record of religious chants or marrying the batucada with dark ambient. Simply delightful.

The Mirror Formula by Xerxes

This is my first and so far only full-length album. It was originally offered as a free download, 6 track album. After receiving inspiring feedback, it was decided to release the album on Cardamar Records in the Netherlands. So I took the album into a studio and had it mixed and mastered. This is the first volume of several in a series called Selected Works. They are collections of songs that I personally enjoy and believe those who follow my music will appreciate. In 2007, the Xerxes Complete DVD was released and it contained every single song I had ever made, which came out to about 420 songs or so.
