It’s been a while, but good things come to those who wait. Hailing from opposite ends of Australia, Perth’s Tangled Thoughts of Leaving and Sydney’s sleepmakeswaves are proud to present you with a shiny new split LP. It’s a record from two bands that are very different yet one that finds an equilibrium between the seemingly disparate tendencies of the two groups. Although both bands find common ground in their latent electronic influences, sleepmakeswaves marry these ideas to their characteristic brand of energetic and uplifting instrumental rock while Tangled Thoughts of Leaving pursue a relentlessly improvisatory, innovative path. The results are more foreboding yet no less spectacular, and are all the more reason to watch for their debut full lengths, slated for 2010.

Argali Records is proud to present “The Piano Concerto”, a long-form avant-garde piano composition augmented with industrial atmospherics. In the words of the composers:
“Imagine a thunderstorm over the mountains near the sea, a stream of piano sounds flowing into the wilderness of nature from a house on the mountain slope, a lonely soul expressing the amazement caused by the mighty forces of Nature.
The Piano Concerto, by Buben and Nasta Labada, is a combination of the old piano improvisation along with industrial sounds, noises, and elements of field recordings. Altogether, they create a volumetric picture surrounding you and taking you away to a different world where your mind opens and senses sharpen.
Vladislav Buben: www.myspace.com/48704278
Nasta Labada: www.myspace.com/nasta.labada
Discover the beauty and float away for a while!”

Data Unit is a French Project in which Philippe (my Brother) is appearing sometimes.
I am François de Benedetti. I used to make some Bands with him and also to play in some others from early 80’s in France and UK (mainly in London area) until mid 90’s.
I’ve been much involved in somekind of Cold / Electro experiences.
Playing guitars, bass guitars, keyboards, synths, programming, recording and so on…
Then i’ve get bored of many things around the music and I decided to stop in 1996.
I’ve almost started “from scratch” in Summer 2006 because I needed to make some more music again.
So I bought some equipments and plugged them in…
I always been keen on Ambiant and “Enlightened” music so at this moment I’ve met someone who made me feel comfortable with the idea to get myself involved in this kind of music.
After a while of “higher and lower” times I started Data Unit in 2007 to do whatever I was keen on.
This isn’t really easy sometimes but as I’m not able to focus on only one “style” I feel free in this Project.
This Release is the very first one and I’m thankful to Elpa and to all those who kept trusting and helping to make it possible.
François de Benedetti.

Second compilation from Mixgalaxy Records. This time authors have been given a task to create full music composition strictly 2 minutes and 22 seconds long, while being completely free in genre choice. This means, once again, that this album is followed by wide variety of moods and music styles. Besides musicians represented on the first release, several new names are introduced here. And yes total number of tracks is 22. Enjoy!

mellow electronic / ambient / acoustic music
Rho is childhood friends Steve Setzepfandt and Josh Wittman. No-Source worked with Rho to curate the October Turncoat EP. October Turncoat sets out of show off Rho’s more acoustic side. Each track contains washes of guitar complimented with subtle ambient texture.
The EP often evokes the sounds of early Bibio or “The Campfire Headphase” era Boards of Canada.
Three songs, Simpl, JW2 and The Game of Flowers are all taken from Rho’s 2008 debut, “Breathing Through the Liquid System”. The songs, Long Drive Home and Lightning Strikes and LEDs are taken from Rho’s most recent album “Glass Memories”. The EP contains one previously unreleased track, And More Rain, a 5 minute journey of backwards guitars, subtle picking, drums and end of a season.

It seems as though our very own Mikael Fyrek has a story to tell – at least, according to the track names from this, his latest ep.
With ‘I step into the advent’, Mikael has perfected the ambient/instrumental genre once again – conveying huge amounts of feeling and emotion in every track. Each being an epic in its own right, the usual excellent use of sounds and production are apparent from the start. All the track in the ep are a continuation of the previous, to create one big picture in your mind.
An audio treat for all Mikael Fyrek fans, and definately one to add to the extensive Fyrek back catalogue that we have here on Kahvi Collective. Cover artwork by skjoldbroder.dk

(R.Massoni).

Earth Mantra is proud to welcome Greg Hurley to our roster of artists, with his beguiling and ground-breaking new album “REVOLVE”.
Clocking in at nearly 48 minutes of continuous music, this is without a doubt a longplayer; but this is very unlike any other ambient release we’ve ever heard. In fact, the music lays somewhere in the hazy boundary between ambient, electronic, instrumental rock, and even jazz, combining elements of all but without committing to any one genre. It is precisely this fusion of styles that makes this album such a refreshing treat. [...]

What we really want to is to entice your senses. We want to challenge your idea of what music is. We want to break boundaries and create soundscapes. We want to leave you with an odd sense of wanting more. We want you to feel overwhelmed.
And we want to do all this with 5 instruments.
The Manipulated Living (Denmark) are:
Bjarke Bertram – Bass
Andrew T. Davidson – Drums
Christian Rye Hougaard – Guitar
Tobias Nielsen – Guitar
Søren R. Pedersen – Guitar

The EP is the foretaste of the upcoming “Viandanze” full album, which will be released in winter 2009.
Fabrizio Paterlini’s music has been defined as ambient, minimalist, graceful, sweet and relaxing: “a glass of red wine on a summer evening”, as he himself defines it.
Recentely, he released an EP – “Viandanze” a small preview of the entire full album that will be registered in 2009.
In 2007, on the “Music Center” label, he released his debut CD, “Viaggi in Aeromobile” (Aircraft Trips): a delicate and elegant album that catapults the listener into the intimate world of the artist where he willingly allows himself to be transported by a sound of rare beauty.
Born in Mantua, Fabrizio started playing the piano at the age of 6.
After many years studying classical music, he started perfoming with a number of bands, playing everything from progressive to hard rock, from jazz to pop. It was not until the end of the 90s that he decided to explore new musical paths, concentrating on the piano, the instrument that best expresses his inner world.

There has come autumn. People aspire to countryside on the nature, to luxuriate in even warm beams of the sun and to take pleasure in evenings of leaving summer under the moon. This easy romantic music will allow to be sure for taking the first step towards a true love, to dare for declaration in own feelings and to sing a night serenade, when others sleep. And maybe, she becomes the witness your long unforgettable passion tonight.

“Shimmering Mah No 1″ â almost 48 minutes of unmistakable Joxfield ProjeX music in their most heavy, progressive, psychedelic space-rock moods, with roaring instruments; the playful jazzy electric pianos, the screaming guitars, break-the-ceiling-basses, wild electronics, rumble keyboars eccentric voice samples and rough arty rolling drumbeats â all of it pointing out new directions of their uncontrolled, explosive creativity.
Should be played LOUD, in excitement and full awareness.

Oax : Guitars, glissandos, ring modulators, samples, efx, explosions

from Free Albums Galore by Marvin
I recently reviewed Ben Stephner’s Sleeping In The Forest, an above average ambient album with ethereal guitar and electronic effects. Since then he has released a number of other albums all just as good or better. As Ben Stepner is primarily a jazz pianist I was especially excited to see two piano albums available. Music fans can now get a more rounded perspective of this talented musician.
Ben Stepner is joined by Bassist Dan Durham and drummer Matt Rousseau on Ode to NEC. This is a jazz trio album that ranges from Bill Evans-ish flourishes as heard on the ironically titled “Cecil Taylor” to more Taylor styled dissonance on “The Nature of Sound”. This is excellent jazz throughout with both Durham and Rouseau right with Stepner every step of the way.
Nineteen Pieces for Piano is also excellent and spotlights the pianist on 19 original solo piano compositions. Both albums features all original material by Stepner. Again there is a variety of sounds ranging from the blues influenced “The Cosmic Lesson” to an impressionistic “Shower”. The pianist has an impressive pallet of colors and tones. This is another excellent album and one of the best piano efforts I’ve featured on Free Albums Galore.
Lucid Dreaming and Reflections returns to ambient guitar and electronics. The albums are more in line with the earlier Sleeping In The Forest. If you looking for ambient styled soundscapes or meditative music these may be what you are looking for. As for me, I have been playing those two piano jazz albums a lot in the past few days.
The albums are in MP3 format. You can either directly download them from the links below, which were provided by permission of the artist, or you can go to the Pure Potentiality Records web site and not only download these albums but other good jazz and ambient offerings by Stepner and other artists.

Felipe Zuñiga, the man behind Dr.800XL’s nickname, is a good friend of ours we have shared stage and entertaining nocturnal soirées with. He’s a public health doctor and a psychiatrist, but we are more familiar with his music-making side. It’s fair to say that this is a very fortunate combination, for he knows the power of music to heal wounds and balancing all those small, unstable parts conforming a person.

One never knows when a clue in a form of a soil sample or a ….
This release is a simple collection of outtakes from several months of production messing with samples collected mostly from retro and vintage sources funded in cybernetic archives and hand craft tape registries ripped and shared in the most recondite blogs around the >infernet … if you are so kind to take some minutes of your diary play list routine and listen it with you favorite headphones …you probably will find some weird musical takes usually slowed down and contrasted with some freaky hop beats, you also will identify some audio cinematic moments inserted like a subliminal brainwashing experience all this driving you madly in loop mode till made you totally slowmotion dancing doll … this 6 raw tracks have been haunting around in my hard drive for almost 2 years … time to share it
….and therefore most honor to be here

For his new LP “Harp Fragments”, Nic decided to hook up with us again. What luck! A lot changed since “Taciturn” and then again everything is the same. You have the dreamy melodies, the bitter-sweet melancholia, that specific Bommarito-feel of being lost in cinescope beauty.
While Nic Bommarito is still a loner (despite assistance from his buddy Michael Connolly on viola and harp), the sound on his new album is much more that of a band, a rock band even more. His rhythm section, slightly awkward back then, is replaced by thundering drums (listen to the first track “200 Sugar Packets” to get an idea!). Tender and fragile parts change with fuzz-soaked, shoegazing noise passages that never let miss melody and bliss. Everything is tight and dense, and although the production is not always hi-fi Nic found the perfect form for his beautiful, emotional music.
On “Better Than Way Too Post-Rock”, all that is Nic Bommarito today is summed up in 5:30 wonderful minutes. The golden ration of crestfallen Americana, North American Folklore and shoegaze Indiepop. Only for this tune, Nic uses a vocal sample, like building a bridge to “Taciturn”. And the circle closes… Thank you Nic!

Volume 13 marks the beginning of the fourth year of The Silent Ballet’s compilation series. Three years ago the first volume was sent out to the world via the Internet, and today we’re still dedicated to bringing our readers exciting, innovative compilations filled with the best and brightest artists from around the globe.
We’ve come a long way since Poetry Without Words, but hopefully the series has shown that the website is unrestrained by genre and is willing to travel to any corner of the world to unearth up-and-coming musicians. Volume 13 feels particularly international, featuring artists from four continents and nine countries, yet also demonstrates that there is something that connects all of us nonetheless.
We’re committed to our goal of providing quality music in a respectable format without charge. As one of life’s greatest pleasures, music should be freely available to all and resistent to commodification. A big thanks goes out to all the artists and labels who made this project possible. Relevant links can be found below; any support is greatly appreciated.
