After three years of rocking and hundreds of live events, Uniquetunes band comes to some deserving point of this movement, releasing its first studio self-titled album. Started as quartet, now they are eight and they still play music totally live. All tracks were recorded without using any computers and the result sounds astonishing: full-power psychedelic jazz mixed with adjusted art-rock.

You’ll find two absolutely new tracks and five ones, previously released as free-improvised versions on A Year Rocking, but now they are totally reworked and upgraded, while tracks from 1 to 6 have several funky seconds total and sounds like intro.

Talking about genres, this record is a mixture of contemporary jazz, live electronics, modern indie rock and psychedelic from 70’s. During these years, Uniqueutnes shared one stage with Red Snapper, Amon Tobin and many others. Everything you hear was self-recorded, self-engineered, self-produced and self-mixed. This work already has respected replies from Jaga Jazzist and Clutchy Hopkins.

Como Siempre it´s Lucas Bargen, 23 years old.From buenos aires, argentina, the city he calls the monster and it´s always trying to escape from and go back to. Como siempre´s songs are a big, a huge catharsis, that´s his way to survive.

His first album is The Shining On Our Names 16 songs written in the past two years, in different places, with different instruments, with different sounds, with different moods and subjects, the same as the lyrics.

All witten by himself for with the exception of two Alejandra Pizarnik quotes in the lyric of Rebelion.

He is also the Lead singer and guitar player of the band Calendar.

The Western Lands, the western bank of the Nile: The frontier to a vast and inhospitable desert, today as in ancient times but also, in Egyptian mythology, the Land of the Dead: A space open to be filled, just as William Burroughs work published in 1987, with meaning, an open book’ in many ways, readable from all possible angles, strung together by an ambience which transcends the limitations of chronological ’storytelling’: Juggling with atmospheres, real and unreal memories, and steeped in occult symbolism. The road which leads to the Western Lands, Burroughs tells us, “is devious and unpredictable. Today’s easy passage may be tomorrow’s death trap. [] To reach the Western Lands is to achieve freedom from fear.”

Far more than an interpretation of Burroughs’ text, Tiago Sousa’s “The Western Lands” retraces itself the journey of an artist towards an unknown territory, aiming not at a conclusion’, but a transition: Just as Burroughs intersects the present with an hallucinatory beyond’, subverting our common notion of reality’, Tiago Sousa’s seven compositions draw upon both the noisy and the melodious, loose rhythms as well as hypnotic repetitions, parallels of equal value which never converge to one simple truth, one simple solution. It comes as no surprise, then, that “The Western Lands” also marks the introduction of a second voice to Sousa’s musical spectrum the guitar, new counterpart to the piano, the former protagonist of his two earlier works (”Crepúsculo”, 2006, and “Noite / Nuit”, split with french artist SRX, 2007): From the frail harmonies of “The Writer” and “The Valley”, to the harsh and discordant sounds of “Can any soul survive the searing fireball of an atomic blast”, the sinister melancholy of “The Road to Western Lands” pieces like “Waghdas”, “Ka” and “Centipede’s City” always hold Sousa’s work in an unsettling balance, never quite yielding to either side, unfolding a wide musical landscape we as listeners can wander in: A musical cut up’, equally “devious and unpredictable”, whose lost part are for us to find: “The most obvious road is almost always a fool’s road.”

With sweet 17 Innsbruck based analog fanatic Krowley launches his first 4-track-EP. Instead of becoming a Schönberg piano prodigy, he found his love in experimental electronic music, but always flavoured with a very special organic ambience. His sound‘s an oscillation between dubstep, electronica and downbeat with heavy influence of acoustic instruments under reference to renaissance music.

Fresh Body Shop is one of the more interesting indie rock groups to show up lately. They have three albums on Jamendo, each one just a little different but sporting a signature sound.

Tasteless is the latest and my favorite of the three. Fresh Body Shop’s basic sound is somewheres between Indie rock, Emo, and Industrial. From the first few track, it is clear that Nine Inch Nails is a major influence. The first two tunes, “My Great Descent” and “The Game” show this influence well and are also two of the best on the album. The title track reminds me of Radiohead with its Yorke-like vocal and its polyrhythmic backing . This is the album to get if you have not heard this group before.

But Make This End isn’t bad either. In fact if you like your rock loud and intense, it might be a better bet. This is a more industrial, metal-tinted effort. “The Middle Line” starts it in a hard hork frantic style and it lets up only a little. There’s a few atmospheric soundscapes here, but industrial is the key word for this session.

Orgamilk does a 180 degree turn and goes acoustic. This is the album that allows the listener to enjoy the lyrics and the calmer mood. Pedro is the lead vocalist and this is primarily his showcase. It’s a peaceful album that features nice vocals and good songwriting. Whatever album you like, we can all agree that Fresh Body Shop has the chops to become a prime time player.

‘A Warm Place With No Memory’ is From The Sky’s third release and displays a huge progression from their previous work, upping the complexity and ambition whilst retaining the melodic hooks, short compositions and detailed structure which sets them apart in the Post-Rock landscape.

Multiple influences combine to produce a cohesive yet varied EP, from melodic passages to heavy riffs, rhythmic math to soaring post-rock noise. ‘A Warm Place….’ shifts from pin-drop quiet to crashing distortion encompassing everything in between and is definitely From The Sky’s best release so far.

Trailing Space is a post/space/krautrock project led by Jean Nine and “Bring The Darkness Over This Place” is the project’s first album. Bring The Darkness Over This Place is a 47 minutes long slowly growing, pompous post-rock work divided into two parts, where beautiful melodies clash to star cluster sized arrangements and quiet ambiences follow thundering loud and noisy parts.

Like Saturn Devours His Children is a successor to previous Trailing Space album, Bring The Darkness Over This Place (2006). It is an instrumental story of revolutions, manipulation, gullibility and consequences. On this album guitars give even more space for the piano and strings, but also for more electronic expression, creating an inspiring mixture of post-rock, ambient and film music.

Music on this album have been used for a theatrical performance and will be featured also in the next feature-length film by Karahka Tuotanto. The album cover is a detail from Saturn by Goya from the Black Paintings series.

This remastered CD contains 2 mini-albums that The Search recorded in 2004 and which have never been officially released until now. The 80’s postpunk and British indie music slowly but steadily make a comeback. Bands like Interpol, Radio 4, Astral and The Stills use the musical heritage of the 80’s in a refreshing way in their modern alternative music. References to The Smiths, Suicide, Joy Division and The Cure are hip again. Now we have something hot again with The Search. Sweden’s newest export, The Search, proved with their debut album that you don’t need to be noisy or extravagant in order to do the job. Their sound brings to mind influences from eighties bands such as The Cure, Joy Division and Sad Lovers & Giants. The band combines a very crisp wavy guitar approach with a classic rhythmic backbone consisting of bass, drums and keys. Their prog-post-punk sound makes the experience of listening to this album one that you wish to repeat over and over. Throughout the album the powerful strums of the bass and synthesizer, absolutely separates their music from other bands-being their strongest element. Overall, this is a good post-punk tune that builds nicely to a climactic frenzy then fades out slowly. Don’t miss out on this one!
