Just an album of simple, melancholic, minimalist music. It revolves around the concept of loneliness, distance and isolation. The inspiration for this disc has come from my own situation since I released “LoFi”, isolated in a new city, trapped in a room around a mess of cement and asphalt, far from everyone I knew. The recording process has been somewhat painful, and I was about to drop the album, but finally I have decided to release it as a way of catharsis. The artwork and cover design was made by Stefan Banaszkiewicz, and Marta González has helped me recording violin for two songs. I am in debt with both of them. Stefan, Marta, thanks, you have made “Ruido Blanco” a reality.

After his self-released works “Bleu Vespéral” and “Le Piano à Coudre (The Sewing-Piano)”, this is the first release of his ongoing “Calendaires”-project, which moves in the fields of minimal, ambient, experimental music and classical music.
This “Calendaires”-release contains two parts, both together over 50 minutes long. Part one begins in a very dark context. Deep, growling bass sounds coming to the surface very slowly, bringing some motives and melodies with them. All these parts are layered together to a monumental and threatening wall of sound, which collapses and falls apart into a deep and dark soundscape again. Part two brings more light to the listener. Little chime-pieces lead to a wide field of melodies and sounds rushing around, bringing back memories.

Lucette Bourdin is rapidly emerging as one of the brightest stars in the panoply of new ambient artists that have come along since the start of the new century. Her distinctive musical voice, combined with her well established artistic vision in artforms outside the realm of music, gives her recordings a unique and refreshing flavor … and more than a little depth and scope.
Her latest effort, entitled Timeless Shore, is a beautiful case in point.
Essentially a single 70 minute ambient long play, Timeless Shore is available in two editions: the uncut full length version (called the Extended Version), and a shortened edit that communicates nearly as much as the full length piece but in a ‘mere’ 45 minutes.
We love the irony, of course, that this shortened edit of the original piece still fully qualifies as a longform piece even unto itself. A brilliant touch. This is ambient music folks - deep immersion requires some time to achieve.
And achieve it she does.
We could attempt to describe the music to you here, using lots of adjectives and flowery language, but ultimately we would fail. Suffice it to say that Timeless Shore is a masterful demonstration of Lucette Bourdin’s brilliant ambient talents, and we would be hard pressed to point to a better release in 2008.
So give it a download today. You’ll love it; we promise.

The eleventh release in the series of Ambient Train Wreck back catalog releases by ambient/electronic artist Palancar.
One of the many aspects of Palancar’s music is live performance, both in front of live audiences and over live net radio. As part of his weekly net radio program over the past several years, Palancar has done many live improvisational ambient performances, which the artist nicknamed “Ambient Train Wrecks” - and the name has stuck ever since. Everything heard in these tracks is live and untouched, except for mastering of the recordings themselves.
Note that Palancar has released several commercial collections of his favorite performances, under the title Ambient Train Wreck Series. Unlike those releases, the Ambient Train Wreck Back Catalog series contains the large number of train wrecks that have never been released commercially, and are only available from Earth Mantra.

Cosmic Lullabies is the sixth album from the Finnish ambient producer Doc and the Russian pianist Lena Selyanina, cosmic and meditative in its style and spirit.
The opening track Bell Meditation is a pure meditation song based on huge bell sounds that resonate and vibrate for extended periods of time. Gradually rising ethereal echoes from sacred eastern choral tradition mix with the bells to form a calm and majestic cosmic setting, perfect for deep relaxation and meditation.
The starting point for Neptune was Lena’s beautiful impressionistic piano improvisation moving in G# Minor, “the bluest of musical modes”, as Lena puts it. The piano then gets surrounded by a mysterious and meditative ambient soundworld. The entire 17 minute song can be interpreted as a long, symbolic probe-like dive through the blue, dreamlike gas layers of Neptune to ever deeper and darker realms, all the way down to the solid rock and metal core of the planet, and from there back to the starlight.
The final track Andromeda is an ambient voyage into the majestic sphere of our neighbour galaxy.

ElectronicaManila is a collective of active musicians and producers of Philippine descent, who were brought together by a mailing list of the same name in 2001, and have since gone on to produce shows, albums, projects and this compilation.
BASICS is a project that spawned from the idea: come up with one song using only the general MIDI set of instruments, and pool together the results for a compilation. What you have here is a collection of idiosyncratic grooves ranging from techno to ambient that capture the disctinct flavor of ElectronicaManila.

Frieze comes from Irish musician Barry Murphy recording under his The Last Sound moniker. Active for years, he’s known from a bunch of his net-releases as well as CD’s on Front End Synthetics or Go Away Records.
The album presented here consists of tracks obviously influenced by music as various as ambient, contemporary electronics to krautrock even. Seven pieces create their own unpredictable atmosphere and seem to go in many unexpected directions - yet, the whole thing is very consistent and makes much more sense when listened as a whole rather than specific tracks.
Abstract electronics, one could say, but there’s much more to this album than such a description. Unmelodic melodies which stay in your head for hours, weird electronics, surreal synths and deconstructed rhythms put this recording in line with the most interesting stuff we’ve ever released.
No choice - you need to try it yourself. Enjoy!

Gianpaolo Diacci aka Halo xvi, artist coming from far away, owns as a music passion the stringed instruments: giutars, basses or Chapman Stick, which he magically plays hopping like an elf. Especially live with the band RAN, whose is the proud bass player.
A tipical musical education, a past marked by new wave sounds, which dissapears inside Daydreaming given the extreme precision in describing a landscape wholly inhabited by electronic particles: lonely trasmitters of an ambient message oneiric programmed.

F i n a l l y, after nearly two months of silence, we are back with a new release and as usual, it’s with a certain excitement.
Not only because it’s been said months ago kaneel would come up with a release for petite&jolie, ror because this release is mixing two years old tracks from his grenier with fresh new materials but for the reason an album of kaneel has been released by Apegenine Recordings and at petite&jolie, we love it when our boys (and girls :p)are just collaborating with various people, on various projects, for the sake of making this world a cuter place!
So here we are, presenting to you this release of Guillaume Richard, dealing with nostalgy driven melodies and playfull clickbeats, soften by naivety and harden by the usual angst which define quite well Guillaume’s usual style.
Going from blues to ambient, new folk to glitchtronica, mixing all of this with a twist and a tint of pop, kaneel tries his best to prove music is only a matter of sounds and not of genres, even a matter of emotions and damn, it’s all about a final result than a particular recipe to apply.
Once playing with knobs, then playing live his melodica, he’s been cooking this romantic and nostalgic release for your only pleisure, bringing new definitions to the sound of petite&jolie and we can’t do anything else than simply enjoy this.

The idea of this album can be recognized while looking at its cover. Taking hard drugs, such as cocaine, is one of the fastest ways to kill yourself, rapidly. Every single day thousands of people die because of the overdose or the suicide. A man, who tasted poppy tears once, will cry during all his life. Think about it.
A project named Abstracode was founded in Ulyanovsk, Russia by Denis Borisov, also known as Microfluid, and Mikhail Gurov (Braincrasher). Stylistically, their music is a mix of dark downbeat, inspired by ambient and trip-hop moods with sophisticated lo-fi experience.

The Western Lands, the western bank of the Nile: The frontier to a vast and inhospitable desert, today as in ancient times but also, in Egyptian mythology, the Land of the Dead: A space open to be filled, just as William Burroughs work published in 1987, with meaning, an open book’ in many ways, readable from all possible angles, strung together by an ambience which transcends the limitations of chronological ’storytelling’: Juggling with atmospheres, real and unreal memories, and steeped in occult symbolism. The road which leads to the Western Lands, Burroughs tells us, “is devious and unpredictable. Today’s easy passage may be tomorrow’s death trap. [] To reach the Western Lands is to achieve freedom from fear.”
Far more than an interpretation of Burroughs’ text, Tiago Sousa’s “The Western Lands” retraces itself the journey of an artist towards an unknown territory, aiming not at a conclusion’, but a transition: Just as Burroughs intersects the present with an hallucinatory beyond’, subverting our common notion of reality’, Tiago Sousa’s seven compositions draw upon both the noisy and the melodious, loose rhythms as well as hypnotic repetitions, parallels of equal value which never converge to one simple truth, one simple solution. It comes as no surprise, then, that “The Western Lands” also marks the introduction of a second voice to Sousa’s musical spectrum the guitar, new counterpart to the piano, the former protagonist of his two earlier works (”Crepúsculo”, 2006, and “Noite / Nuit”, split with french artist SRX, 2007): From the frail harmonies of “The Writer” and “The Valley”, to the harsh and discordant sounds of “Can any soul survive the searing fireball of an atomic blast”, the sinister melancholy of “The Road to Western Lands” pieces like “Waghdas”, “Ka” and “Centipede’s City” always hold Sousa’s work in an unsettling balance, never quite yielding to either side, unfolding a wide musical landscape we as listeners can wander in: A musical cut up’, equally “devious and unpredictable”, whose lost part are for us to find: “The most obvious road is almost always a fool’s road.”
