Mike Link and Harvey Taylor have released their second album titled Beat Elementals continuing their successful blend of jazz and world music that was evidenced on their first album. Link’s keyboards and electronics still perfectly meld with Taylor’s cool trumpet style. Some of the tracks remind me a little of Bill Laswell’s world music hybrid. Aside from Link and Taylor’s usual impeccable playing they are joined by some excellent musicians, most noticeably the flute and vocals of Holly Haebig which can be heard to good effect on “Silver Swirl” and “PuraVeda”. “Room For All” has some intriguing didgeridoo work by Julio Pabon. Other fine tracks include “Angels of Mercy”, “Blue-Green Patina”, and “Sun Tour”. This is another exceptional album of jazz and world grooves from this Milwaukee-based jazz-fusion duo.

The album is available from Jamendo by the download link below in VBR MP3. If you enjoy the music support the artist by buying their CDs.

Some of these I have been sitting on for far too long, so I have to share them with you. A nice variety here, so I will do a little blurb about each track. Don’t forget you can also stream before you download.

Enjoy the music!

Radiohead - Creep (Copycat Club remix) :: Copycat on the remix of Radiohead’s first big tune. A little slow, but it does a great job of working with the original vocal. Almost on the industrial edge, but has some acid sounds in it as well.

Pink Floyd - Time (Cates & dpL No Time For Miami mix) :: A brilliant re-working of a Pink Floyd classic. A nice deep track that just keeps building and building. I want to hear this really loud in a full, dark club.

Chic Flowerz & Kolesky - Everybody Be Somebody (Chic Flowerz radio mix) :: An electro house remake of a true house classic. I only have the radio edit, but this is a fun vocal track that everyone should recognize.

Net-Lab (www.net-lab.co.uk) is celebrating two years of bringing free, legally redistributable music to the world this mont (June). We have nearly 40 releases ranging from breakcore, noise and ambient through to dubstep and electro and lots more to come this year. Some names you might recognise include two EPs from Ital Tek (also Planet Mu Records, Square Records), one from Michael Manning (also AI Records), a mix and individual tracks from Chevron, The Teknoist, and lots more beyond that.

Its been a busy two years for us down here in Brighton, having had some part in the arrangement or running of a show here probably every month during that time, providing a lot of exposure for some of our artists.

We have lots of new forthcoming material… you’ll just have to wait a bit longer to get your hands on it!

Sutemos.net

http://www.sutemos.net/

DJ Walkman is one of the most active persons on the Lithuanian electronic scene.

Mostly known for being founder and runner of net-label sutemos.net. He is also a host of Sutemos Live gig series.

By breaking stereotypes of one-day projects Sutemos web site has become a symbol of idm and minimal music not only in Lithuania but also abroad.

From 2005 DJ Walkman has been spinning records together with the legend of chicago House - Johny Fiasco, Nightwares On Wax, Fluxion, Technical Itch, Rhythm & Sound.

He was also hosting and warming up in Sutemos Live event series such producers as Modeselektor, Apparat, Plaid, Monolake, SCSI9, Vladislav Delay,

Sutemos.net started as a Project to promote IDM/Experimental electronic music which was just coming into Lithuanian public back at that time.

At the beginning it was a solo project run only by one man (with some help from his friends as well). At this time it had new, reviews and articles. As the time went on some things changed - some people joined the team, some left it but finally Sutemos.net became a project of two guys - Sutemos and Walkman.

After some time we felt that writing reviews and articles meant not being close enough to our readers and people interested in electronic music.

So we decided to take a risk (because almost nobody did things like this) and started releasing music we loved.

We even didn’t know what and how to do it, but it was part of the fun as well.
Although our very first intended project was Intelligent Toys compilation, but it took us a lot of time to make it right, so the very first release of ours was 3tronik - k0ma pR0j3ct EP.

It gained much more feedback than we anticipated so we got motivated to do our next release even better.

For Sutemos.net QUALITY, not QUANTITY is all that matters.

It’s really amazing if consider the fact that it is only our hobby - we both have quiet good jobs and work on Sutemos.net only on spare time.

Acroplane.org

http://www.myspace.com/iso9

Acroplane has been around for about 2 years now, although its head-curator has been involved with running local net-labels for about 7 years. It started off just to provide an online outlet for Northern Irish musicians, but as the collective grew in popularity a lot of demos started coming in from all over the world, so the guys decided to develop the label into the more internationally relevant setup that you can see today.

Musically, anything goes. If they like it they’ll consider releasing it. You can contact them via their websites with demo submissions. A few artists on their roster that you may have heard of are Mad EP, Barry Lynn, Mothboy, Filaria and Ebola, but their roster is full of gems of upcoming and lesser known talent.

Them Records

http://themrecords.com/

http://www.myspace.com/themrecords

THEM Records is an independent netlabel based in absolutely-nowhere. We are a centerless collective exemplifying a nebulous electronic-music ideal. We have no agenda or manifesto, only a stream of releases that best speak for themselves.

Artist Descriptions:

Acidburp: Mike Walters is 27 and comes from Manchester, UK. He has been making Electronic music for about 8 years, and before that he was a drummer in a few bands. ~Acidburp makes his music in a Program called FLStudio aka Fruityloops. He takes influence from Artists such as Wisp, Mrs Jynx, Boards of Canada and from Bands like Arab Strap and Mogwai. He has had a few releases on some of Falty DL’s website and some on Badsekta, but recently had his first EP released on THEM records

Benefit of the Boomerang: What is the Benefit of the Boomerang? Holland’s most pretentious beatwork-a-holic Jordy Timmermans has been contaminating his broken form of dancemusic with theatrical energy and cinematic drama. Giving life to music you want to swing a samurai sword at, this Rotterdam born and bred producer combines intense beat manipulation with bombastic melodies, creating an entity he refers to as dramacore. This dramacore took him on a tour through Europe in 2007, on the Who broke my Beats tourâ in 2008 and will take Benefit of the Boomerang as far as Moscow this late summer, as he will perform at the Dutch Punch Festival in Russia. This music is like an openheart operation at thirteen degrees Kelvin: pretty cool.

Die Blutige Hand: behind DBH is a 28 year old German painter and musician who doesn’t believe in the official culture. He uses pseudonyms and wants the underground to be strong and intense. Our subculture must become a huge and gentle community for everyone who has stopped complaining and does what he thinks is good. He likes Tori Amos, Glenn Gould and R.D.James.

Alansmithee: hi. i make songs for fun. i hope you enjoy thems¦
ps: the violin did not end with gidon kremer and nor did 7/8 end with vsnares. deal with it homie, it’ll feel better afterwards Smile

Lastrapink: Lastrapink grew up in Venezuela, and from an early age was into playing instruments and studying harmony with his music teacher Emilio Mendoza. He was impressed by the acid underground music that was brought to Venezuela from London so he decided to travel to the UK to learn English and to perform his own music in various UK parties and clubs. Soon after he made the jump to Berlin to work with people such as Phlex, Vertical 67 and the Hasenland krew, and to play alongside such luminaries as Plaid, Jega and Modeselektor at RockPaperScissor parties. Since then he has also been playing gigs under the name Andromede with his partner Q Squared, playing at parties in the UK and Berlin. He is currently taking his acid sound to his home land of Venezuela by running his own events. The luminescence EP is a selection of tunes made in the Uk and South America; a unique combination of European acid and South American electro vibes.

Kallipolis: Kallipolis is 20 year old Eric Neil Johnson. He enjoys making music and eating anything tasty. He is inspired by many electronic artists such as Wisp and Gareth Clarke. Kallipolis has many releases available and an EP planed for THEM records later this year.

Terry Keeley: Terry is a 24 year old music tech student from belfast in Ireland, He runs a monthly night in Belfast with good friend and producer T-Polar. he enjoys many different styles of music, at this moment in time he’s listening to stuff like chris clark, flying lotus, mouse on mars, to the fall and my bloody valentine but ultimitely theres far too much great music to even possibly list. Terry’s has dj’d alongside many great dj’s including surgeon and speedy J.

In the past year, Portland, Oregon, based SubSensory Recordings has becoming a driving force behind the area’s Techno scene with both it’s DJ roster and digital record label. Its’ current roster of artists includes Portland Techno legend George Holland, label founder JAK as well as Lil Roj, Primal, Cozmix Vixen, AO and Nathan Detroit. JAK talks a little bit about the labels history and its’ future plans:

“When I started SubSensory in 2005 my goal was to develop the framework for a record label and to push the Techno sound in Portland, which had fallen off considerably since the middle and late 90s. During the first two years things moved slowly, so I focused my energy in the studio and started the SubSensory website to help promote my mixes and tunes. I also began a guerilla marketing campaign using MySpace and many national and international EDM forums.

In 2007 this strategy began to pay off both in terms of visits to the SubSensory site and gigs. We started getting thousands of hits a month, my mixes were getting downloaded at surprising rates, and I began playing almost every weekend. I was booked in Seattle for the first time in years and also signed several original tracks on Portland based Akashik Records. I also started collaborating with Portland based hard-techno artist Primal, who had already released his own tracks on a number of international labels, and Louisiana transplant Dj Lil Roj. Roj, Markus (Primal) and I spent many Friday nights at the SubSensory studio mixing beats with beers and sharing ideas regarding the techno sound and its future.

In summer of 2007 Jak learned he and and his wife had the opportunity to work and live in Chile for 12 months. They didn’t waste any time in accepting the offer and in July 07 they found themselves living in Vina Del Mar a resort city and popular tourist destination on Chile’s central coast.

Moving to Chile gave me a new perspective, more time to spend on the label and time to reflect on the scene in general. I quickly saw that Chilean artists faced barriers similar to those faced by Portlanders. Specifically clubs who were resistant to techno, low pay for Djs, isolation from the international dj circuit, and a lack of cooperation between local artists. With a little luck I hooked up with some good people and had the opportunity to play many of the areas top clubs and parties and to collaborate with several local producers. I also took my first serious look at the digital music market, which I had previously shunned. Something I came to terms with in Chile was that although I prefer vinyl, many aspiring international DJs don’t have the access to vinyl that we enjoy in the US. For example a new vinyl record in Chile costs 18 to 20 US dollars, in a country where most people earn a relatively small salary. This spawned the idea of distributing our first releases in the digital format.” In the Fall of 2007 SubSensory’s first two EP’s, “Shrapnel” and “Circles” hit the digital market with JunoDownload, TrackItDown, BeatsDigital and DanceRecords.com.

Since then SubSensory has released 5 EP’s featuring tracks from Jak, Primal, and Chilean artist Basstik and coming EPs will feature tracks and Remixes from Lil Roj, Chilean artist Mikiphone, Seattle based Jakub, and others TBA. SubSensory has also assembled Portland’s strongest techno DJ roster including JAK and Lil Roj and George Holland. George came out of a 5 year hiatus in 2007 and has quickly re-established himself as one of the most in-demand local djs. Others include Dj *aO*, Vixen, and PRA’s Nathan Detroit (www.pra.org), all of whom have seen a sizable surge in popularity in the past 6 months. In July 2008 JAK returns to Portland on the heels of the labels growth and his calendar is quickly filling up with event bookings including a highly anticipated Thursday August 14th event at Holocene, which will feature tag team sets from the entire Portland SubSensory roster.”

Now for the music! JAK was kind enough to share Subsensory release #2 with our readers. Click on the link link to download each track or stream it by pressing play. Following the tracks are a couple of mixes - one from JAK and one from Lil Roj. Enjoy the music!

JAK - Tension Control.mp3

JAK - Live in Santiago, Chile.mp3 :: “Live in Santiago” was recorded live 6-22-2008 at club Piso 33, one of the hottest electronic clubs in Santiago Chile. A South American flavored dj set featuring a broad range of techno, tribal, electro-house, some latin flavored tech and even a bit of progressive.

DJ Lil Roj - Absorption.mp3 :: Recorded in November 2007, Lil Roj’s demo “Absorption” features artists such as Martin Eyerer, Dubfire, Wink, Cirez D, Chris liebing. This mix showcases a fine selection of techno and minimal mixed and blended to perfection, a perfect example of Roj’s intelligent take on dirty-techy funk.

The new album of mBs begins straight away with a melancolic, trancy intro, (I Hate My Eyes) with smartly cutted, variated drum lines. Then going on with this emotion, starting up the “I Just” with a grumbling bass, minimalist synththeme, approaching to the dancefloor-oriantated section of the album. We’ve just arrived to a from the past are familiar track, (Starnet In Your Hair) what we can hear remastered now.

At the background with vocals, and the foreground with electro synththemes and floaty tunes. The next track “We Can Fly”, is a real dancefloorblaster composition. The bass bites, makes you feel dancing right away. The well effected track don’t allows you to rest, you must dance when you can’t get breathe. Next we arrive to the dreamworld of “I’ts A Dream” , where we can became robots by the pulsating basses, then the broken prelude of “I’m A Robot” will wakes us up, to sing along with mBs to acid tweeps and electro tunes. (i’m a robot / in this galaxy / i’m a robot / makin’ you happy).

Then in darkness or closed eyes, excluding the outside world, dance ’till the end of “Dancing With Lights Off” grooves, to get amused by the harmony of beautyful analog synths. Then for closing to get relaxed, we can hear the “Film Noir” what have made by in common with Aniko. We can go to another dimensons by it’s triphoppy deduction. We can - effected by the pianolines and the lazy beats - get focused on our movie, and we can touch the replay button…

Its been a long while since Kenny Beltrey last released on Kahvi, and its always a welcome change to hear some of his ‘elektro-nu skool-techno-dance-idm-upbeat’ works.

and he doesn’t disappoint with the oddly named ‘yako emulator’ - two tracks of his unmissable style with fast paced tracks, addictive melodies and almost-eurodance style. recommended track: spiritual technology.

Put on the headphones, turn up the volume and feel the adrenaline pumping!
