Net-Lab

Net-Lab (www.net-lab.co.uk) is celebrating two years of bringing free, legally redistributable music to the world this mont (June). We have nearly 40 releases ranging from breakcore, noise and ambient through to dubstep and electro and lots more to come this year. Some names you might recognise include two EPs from Ital Tek (also Planet Mu Records, Square Records), one from Michael Manning (also AI Records), a mix and individual tracks from Chevron, The Teknoist, and lots more beyond that.
Its been a busy two years for us down here in Brighton, having had some part in the arrangement or running of a show here probably every month during that time, providing a lot of exposure for some of our artists.
We have lots of new forthcoming material… you’ll just have to wait a bit longer to get your hands on it!
Sutemos.net
DJ Walkman is one of the most active persons on the Lithuanian electronic scene.
Mostly known for being founder and runner of net-label sutemos.net. He is also a host of Sutemos Live gig series.
By breaking stereotypes of one-day projects Sutemos web site has become a symbol of idm and minimal music not only in Lithuania but also abroad.
From 2005 DJ Walkman has been spinning records together with the legend of chicago House - Johny Fiasco, Nightwares On Wax, Fluxion, Technical Itch, Rhythm & Sound.
He was also hosting and warming up in Sutemos Live event series such producers as Modeselektor, Apparat, Plaid, Monolake, SCSI9, Vladislav Delay,
Sutemos.net started as a Project to promote IDM/Experimental electronic music which was just coming into Lithuanian public back at that time.
At the beginning it was a solo project run only by one man (with some help from his friends as well). At this time it had new, reviews and articles. As the time went on some things changed - some people joined the team, some left it but finally Sutemos.net became a project of two guys - Sutemos and Walkman.
After some time we felt that writing reviews and articles meant not being close enough to our readers and people interested in electronic music.
So we decided to take a risk (because almost nobody did things like this) and started releasing music we loved.
We even didn’t know what and how to do it, but it was part of the fun as well.
Although our very first intended project was Intelligent Toys compilation, but it took us a lot of time to make it right, so the very first release of ours was 3tronik - k0ma pR0j3ct EP.
It gained much more feedback than we anticipated so we got motivated to do our next release even better.
For Sutemos.net QUALITY, not QUANTITY is all that matters.
It’s really amazing if consider the fact that it is only our hobby - we both have quiet good jobs and work on Sutemos.net only on spare time.
Acroplane.org
Acroplane has been around for about 2 years now, although its head-curator has been involved with running local net-labels for about 7 years. It started off just to provide an online outlet for Northern Irish musicians, but as the collective grew in popularity a lot of demos started coming in from all over the world, so the guys decided to develop the label into the more internationally relevant setup that you can see today.
Musically, anything goes. If they like it they’ll consider releasing it. You can contact them via their websites with demo submissions. A few artists on their roster that you may have heard of are Mad EP, Barry Lynn, Mothboy, Filaria and Ebola, but their roster is full of gems of upcoming and lesser known talent.

Them Records
http://www.myspace.com/themrecords
THEM Records is an independent netlabel based in absolutely-nowhere. We are a centerless collective exemplifying a nebulous electronic-music ideal. We have no agenda or manifesto, only a stream of releases that best speak for themselves.
Artist Descriptions:
Acidburp: Mike Walters is 27 and comes from Manchester, UK. He has been making Electronic music for about 8 years, and before that he was a drummer in a few bands. ~Acidburp makes his music in a Program called FLStudio aka Fruityloops. He takes influence from Artists such as Wisp, Mrs Jynx, Boards of Canada and from Bands like Arab Strap and Mogwai. He has had a few releases on some of Falty DL’s website and some on Badsekta, but recently had his first EP released on THEM records
Benefit of the Boomerang: What is the Benefit of the Boomerang? Holland’s most pretentious beatwork-a-holic Jordy Timmermans has been contaminating his broken form of dancemusic with theatrical energy and cinematic drama. Giving life to music you want to swing a samurai sword at, this Rotterdam born and bred producer combines intense beat manipulation with bombastic melodies, creating an entity he refers to as dramacore. This dramacore took him on a tour through Europe in 2007, on the Who broke my Beats tourâ in 2008 and will take Benefit of the Boomerang as far as Moscow this late summer, as he will perform at the Dutch Punch Festival in Russia. This music is like an openheart operation at thirteen degrees Kelvin: pretty cool.
Die Blutige Hand: behind DBH is a 28 year old German painter and musician who doesn’t believe in the official culture. He uses pseudonyms and wants the underground to be strong and intense. Our subculture must become a huge and gentle community for everyone who has stopped complaining and does what he thinks is good. He likes Tori Amos, Glenn Gould and R.D.James.
Alansmithee: hi. i make songs for fun. i hope you enjoy thems¦
ps: the violin did not end with gidon kremer and nor did 7/8 end with vsnares. deal with it homie, it’ll feel better afterwards Smile
Lastrapink: Lastrapink grew up in Venezuela, and from an early age was into playing instruments and studying harmony with his music teacher Emilio Mendoza. He was impressed by the acid underground music that was brought to Venezuela from London so he decided to travel to the UK to learn English and to perform his own music in various UK parties and clubs. Soon after he made the jump to Berlin to work with people such as Phlex, Vertical 67 and the Hasenland krew, and to play alongside such luminaries as Plaid, Jega and Modeselektor at RockPaperScissor parties. Since then he has also been playing gigs under the name Andromede with his partner Q Squared, playing at parties in the UK and Berlin. He is currently taking his acid sound to his home land of Venezuela by running his own events. The luminescence EP is a selection of tunes made in the Uk and South America; a unique combination of European acid and South American electro vibes.
Kallipolis: Kallipolis is 20 year old Eric Neil Johnson. He enjoys making music and eating anything tasty. He is inspired by many electronic artists such as Wisp and Gareth Clarke. Kallipolis has many releases available and an EP planed for THEM records later this year.
Terry Keeley: Terry is a 24 year old music tech student from belfast in Ireland, He runs a monthly night in Belfast with good friend and producer T-Polar. he enjoys many different styles of music, at this moment in time he’s listening to stuff like chris clark, flying lotus, mouse on mars, to the fall and my bloody valentine but ultimitely theres far too much great music to even possibly list. Terry’s has dj’d alongside many great dj’s including surgeon and speedy J.

Monomatik have a thing with figures going. All their release-numbers are divisible by twelve without remainder. And even though Monomatik is being formed by three people, the cover of their latest release, on which all of the six track-titles start off with “the one”, shows a total of four faces. Maybe something like their version of the fifth Beatle.
Following the idea of their previous three EPs on iD.EOLOGY, Monomatik keep trying hard at gaining some romanticising aspects from a more and more technified environment on “But we made it so far”. They transfer the bittersweet tone of British 80’s indie-pop to minimalist electronic-tracks, adding the sound-aesthetics of old 8-bit computers along with synthpoppish vocal-bits and the grumbling of electric bass-guitars.
The resulting mixture of melancholy, alienation, euphoria and hope does not only creep over us because Monomatik know the tricks of the trade when it comes to indietronic. It also creeps over us because this EP is not only the latest, it’s also going to be the very last release from Monomatik. But since we, too, know how to add up our figures, we refuse to accept that this fact is true any more than the fourth Monomatik member is real. Or the fifth Beatle. Nothing’s over ’til it’s over.

One of the best ways to get a grasp on the variety of music that is available through netlabels is to browse the several compilation series that has been put together by music fans and bloggers. I have already reviewed a few of them including Netbloc and The Silent Ballet. A new kid on the block is the Netmuzyka.com, a humble blog presenting Niesencje, a creative series of online albums bringing what they consider the cream of the netlabel crop. Their focus is somewhat mainstream, meaning no avant-garde, but there is a wide assortment of electronic music, IDM, nu-jazz, dance, introverted folk/pop, and ambient . There are currently seven collections, all having a consistently high quality with all tracks well chosen and each separate album having a listening duration of 40 to 60 minutes. Quite a few of the artists have already been discovered and written about by yours truly including Umma Project, ST, Post Human Era, and Stockfinster. However I am also unearthing a number of other promising artists which I have made a note to check out more thoroughly. These include the new age Virculum, an urban-percussive Skarv, and a exotically Latin Trafficjam. There’s just too many interesting tracks on these albums. Suffice to say, I’m currently listening to Vim’s fairytale of a tune titled “That Smell of Spring Rain” while it is 114 degrees Fahrenheit outside and digging it. All in all, this is a very fine series, nothing too challenging yet all enjoyable and worth checking out.

A rare, beautiful mix of original music by Ekkis (aka Tom Ellis). Recorded during his stay at Pen Y Banc near Machynlleth in early 2008, the session reflects his mood at the time. Not initially planned for release, these unusual tracks compliment each other perfectly creating a very unique recording.

The last time I did a song that mentioned minimal everyone complained and said it was too busy so I decided to build a song on only two notes. I dumbed down the bassline as much as I could without having a seizure and fought to keep only 2 voices for most of the song. I could not stop myself from adding the synth solo at the end and the piano triads which added another 4 notes.
As for the ambient part, I used recent field recordings that I just added to Freesound over an almost drone like intro. I spent a total of about 30 minutes recording this song with as little editing and processing as possible.

After nine months of work, collaboration, and love of music, Tryad, a truly intercontinental musical band, releases their first album, Public Domain. Filled with genre-bending, spectacular work, each song fills up and bursts with what it offers.
From the opening salvo of ‘The Final Rewind’ and ‘I See,’ to the soft, thoughtful moods of ‘Star Guide’ and ‘The Rising,’ and even to the pseudo-sixties Beatles-esque ‘Peace On Earth (Same Place),’ all the songs work either in chorus or by themselves, and create a tapestry of sound.

Keywords: Electro, Ambient, World, Rock, Dub
Just seven months after releasing his first discographic trial “The Great Noise”, Silent Bells strikes back with his first LP in a mood/style of his own. As the title of the album suggests, Mozaïc is a real patchwork, an motley ensemble filled with influences and colors that are mixed together, even crushed, without never reaching the perfect harmony. Electronic music leads this union, creating a cross-over between rock, dub and world-ambient. This new Silent Bells release presents a synthese between instrumental, analogic, acoustic and electronic musics, trying to bring to each one more than just an exotic touch. “Mozaïc” features a real downtempo collaboration with spanish dj/producter [wi-ni]2.0 on “La Herencia”.

Light, in the absence of eyes, illuminates nothing. But we are here. Visible forms are not inherent in the world, but are granted by the act of seeing and feeling. Though the world and events do exist independent of mind, they obtain of no meaning in themselves: none that the mind is not guilty of imposing on them.
For centuries we’re among you. Moving silently among you, from day to day… aeons ago we came, never left you. Sentinels of your days, leaving you all alone in the dark, but always hiding and waiting for our turn to show up.
But when it’s dark outside and you are all alone, you want us… You crave for us, calling us to come to watch over you. We will always be here with you, but sometimes not just when you need us. At the end of your life journey you’ll see us… at the end of the tunnel - waiting for you. White, glittering, pure… And you will spread your arms and try to call us and embrace us. We are the the light. And we will be with you till the end of time.
We bring you man that needs no introduction - Perfect Blind and his stunning Discoveries EP. Filled with positive sounds and light in audio sense. This EP is following the circle of life surrounded by the light.
Descent (Intro) - enchanted atmopshere that introduces us to this EP. Dark-ish at the begining but powerful at the end.
The New Old - piano play with some dirty beats. Melody sticks in your mind for a long long looong time.
Man In New York (Perfect Blind Downtempo Remake) - keep calm, disconnect yourself from this world for the moment, be one with yourself and nature around you, follow the light and enjoy life. Very anthemic track… which we like.
No Quarantine - Orbitalesque atmosphere but with dirty and fat knob play on the old Roland TB303. Soundtrack for the clash of the titans and war of the worlds. Hard acid rain of warheads will fall upon us. Forgive us, for we have sinned… and we shall never sin again. We shall prevail.
Athanatic (Outro) - epilogue of this audio journey. Sleep tight and wait for another day.

We left off our netlabel section with the smooth chill out sounds of Kopasetik and we are going to continue in this direction. Deep melodic grooves fill the area. Kopa continues to win over fans with his sharp psychedelic sound fused with deep soulful, jazzy, hip hop influenced undertones. This one is rated E for everyone, as anyone that takes a listen and gives this gem a chance will most certainly find a place in their digital crates to store and pull this one out when they just might feel the need to get away from the techno/housy sounds that we are all too used to downloading from most netlabels these days. We are excited to restore our netlabel and couldn’t come back in better fasion!!! Enjoy!!!

We continue expanding our vector space through the scalar production of the personal subspace that generate all that independent vector. In our incessant search of different subspaces, we have found one call Javier Rubio.
Under the coordinates of architect, investigator and sonorous artist, he got to draw a work sprinkled of broken context changes, click & cuts fragmented exponentially and rhythmic structures of complex character. The final product is this “Condiciones de contexto”, whose form is a continuous work of the part and in which, the context is a broken work on the time.
As Domingo Portas said: “It develops an idea, divide it and you will have poetry, add it audio and will be born the music, freeze it and will see architecture”.
