Population Zero is an in Germany undiscovered talent from Spain, more precisely from Tenerife. He released tracks under another pseudonym on the label “Eklero” records. You can describe his sound as modern plastic Deephouse. His sounds and songstuctures are very good figured out and arranged. You have always the feeling that his small sections percussion-sounds noshing on the echo chamber, floating in the air. “Inmaculada” is one of the tracks full of these plasticsounds and these effectsweeps. In the breaks you listen to mystic and deep synthsounds losing the ground. It sounds like you discerp a peace of cloth. Population Zero tells you an interesting story with his tracks. “Minimal Embargo” also has this scary-movie character with its drifting bassground and these endless sweeping echo chambers. A cantankerous bassline associates with glisten percussionsounds and a lot of deepness and mystic. The track seems to be endless because it has this funk, these freshness and lightness in the sounds… “Paper Cut” rounds down Population Zero`s release “Elegant Underground”. Again you can feel reams of elements flying through the room. You can say that the little sounds nibbling as much as they can… He placed deep filtered synth-arpeggios into “Paper Cut” to get this movie touch into his productions. Very successful tracks not only for the club, also designed for home, to couch and dream. …sophisticated except the last element! great!

“The Change” is Jose Galbans debuts release on vekton musik. Its also the first release on this new and fresh mp3 digital label. The tracks are a little bit trancy and at the same time very danceable. They have also a big recognizability value. “Another Ground” starts with a deep hypnotic sound and a fundament of bass and rhythm. The percussion is accompanied by deep effect sounds and breath voices till the hookline begins after the break. The track sounds like a big thunderstorm. “Errors” is a track with a lot of organic sounds moving through a powerful rhythm. the title track “Change” sounds like a clap-monster with a deep knarz-bass and a well defined percussion sounds. The percussion impulses up and down… The breaks were placed where they have to be… This technoid tool completes the track “Chiaro”. The producers Darrows and Raphael used bleeping Synthieleads moving straight and slow towards the punch line.

Saccobros are a duo of electronic music formed by brothers Lorenzo and Bruno Sacco from Italy. The track developes from breathy “Ahh” vocals to playful chordsound-characteristic. “Bed & Breakfast” also consists of this background synthy flange sounds and a deep loopy simple baseline. The flanged synth and the hypnotic-percussion rim-shots defining the funky deep grooving dance track with its fat clap sound. A monster on its way to the next adventure!!! Solaremusics remix of “Safari” begins with deep filtered low pass percussion sounds and delayed elements of the orginal track. In the age of 6 years Ken Hayakawa began to play piano and developed very promise, that he played songs from Beethoven and Diabelli at the “Salzburger Schlosskonzerte” in 1991. In the meanwhile Ken is a Dj, Live Act and produces very nice athmospheric minimaltechno. This year he played with ricardo villalobos on the aftershowparty of the loveparade in essen. The friendly, likeable Ken Hayakawa from Vienna released already tracks on Flex Schallplatten. With his release “jogging in the club” ken shows what he can conjure with his machines. “Club snack” grooves very dry and jingle with knocking percussion sounds and leadsounds. The track sounds very fresh and happy, supported by a light acidbaseline… “Illegal owner” begins with small section percussionsounds and a strong beating basedrum. The track is building a very moving power minimalmonster between its noise sounds and groovy melodic synthylines. Belling sounds are introducing the climax of this synthy-enamored track. With a frisky acidbaseline and bellform percussionsound ken introduces his track “jogging high”. He conjures us with a distinctively melodic spacesound… totaly a very fine release with a special, knocking athmotechnosound… thank you Ken.

Luke Hess
Born in 1980 and raised in the Detroit area, Luke Hess has harnessed a deep appreciation for electronic music and the expression of the underground movement.
His background in mathematics and engineering have given him a scientific approach to the dance floor. His music production has landed him a seat with Beretta Music and FXHE in Detroit, Kontra-Musik in Sweden, Modelisme Records in France, and Echocord Colour in Denmark. His first release on FXHE made it into the top 50 releases of the year in 2007 in Groove Magazine.

Droog is the enigmatic DJ cadre of Andrei Osyka, Brett Griffin and Justin Sloe. Born enemies during the height of the Cold War, the triptych’s origins and influences span thousands of miles, from the wooded hills of Ukraine to the first American metropolis.
Individually, the members of Droog are an odd-lot: Justin Sloe is rumored to have played third baseman for the Boston Red Sox, and is best described by the sheer breadth of his musical influences and his proclivity to break out the perfect old-school sample or classic tune; Brett, of parts unknown, is as likely to drop a cutting remark as a haunting melody; Andrei, an able midfield general, world traveler and lampmaker, is known for his singularly fine taste in house, minimal, techno and women. The friendship between these strange souls, cemented by innumerable late-night to early-morning music sessions, produced Droog and its distinct sound - some say its “zvook” - bending genre (house, minimal, techno) and time (late night into early morning) in an unhealthy pursuit of all that percolates in electronic dance music.
Known for inimitable mixes acclaimed by both music auteurs and amateurs, Droog has served its come-uppance, DJing in exotic and far-flung locales such as Kiev, Lisbon and Taipei, and playing alongside influences such as Richie Hawtin, Lee Burridge, Three, Mr. C, Booka Shade, Tiga, John Tejada, Matthew Dear and Magda. Apart from the ubiquitous Johnny D, it’s hard to think of a producer more hotly tipped at the moment than Martin Stimming. The Hamburg producer records mostly for the hometown Diynamic imprint, crafting gently wobbly and highly melodic tracks that tug ever-so-carefully at the heartstrings. It’s a sound that’s caught on among the DJ elite, as each of his two most recent collaborative productions, ‘Madeline’ (with Einmusik) and ‘Radar’ (with H.O.S.H.), have threatened the top of the RA charts. With a stunning track on the way called ‘Una Pena’ that samples Chilean folk singer Violetta Parra, we’re guessing that run isn’t likely to change.
On his RA podcast, Stimming doesn’t go in for the usual DJ antics. Instead, his is a live set, composed solely of his own original productions and remixes. It’s a testament to his skill that it’s both a cohesive document and one that doesn’t sound like the same track repeated for an hour’s time. [more..]

Well, it never rains it pours. Hot on the heels of the SSGs last two mixes (both fantastic) comes another doozy, this time care of Michel Baumann. Baumann is perhaps best known as Jackmate and Soulphiction, but also works as Supatone and is a member of the League Of Ordinary Gentlemen and Manmade Science. Oh, and he runs Philpot and Phil e. A busy lad. I first got hooked on Baumann’s sound with his Soulphiction track ‘Phake and Phoney’, which appeared on a compilation of minimal house called Inhouse Volume 1 - Modern House Sounds From Deepest Germany. After that, it was his Jackmate track ‘Ghetto of My Mind’ – sampling Gil Scott Heron – that won me over. But more than anything, it’s been Baumann’s recent tracks that have been mindblowing, and whether it’s sonorous Detroit-y house, slamming, rolling minimal techno or atmospheric, finely-crafted tech-house, Baumann’s productions manage to be both reverential toward their influences and full of their own character, detail and life – they’re classic and personal. A mantra of mine in all things work-related is this: ‘Attend to your work with passion and care.’ All of Baumann’s work contains a similar ethic – he gives a fuck, and it shows in everything he does, whether its the crafting of beats, the development of one of the best catalogues of any label, or DJing. As for this particular mix, what we have here is… one of the best sets I’ve heard all year (okay, I’m not disinterested but all the same), one that effortlessly, intricately weaves together European and American sounds and styles, old and new. Some of my favourite tracks are here: Sensorama’s evergreen ‘Harz’ (which is thirteen years old and still sounds fresh), Isolée’s great remix of Lawrence, and the everdark beauty of Aphex Twin’s ambient imagination. This is everything good DJing should be: intelligent and historically-engaged track selection, deft programming, and mixes that show the inter-sympathies of each tracks as well as revealing something new about both in the slide of the fader. Lad(d)ies, you’re in for a real treat. Nuff preamble – here it is.

Andreas Florin was born on 11.07.1977 in Siegen Germany. When he was 15 years of age he became interested at electronic music. He became interested by listening to Members of Mayday and Cherrymoon (Bonzai!!). After years of partying in clubs like The Omen (!) and Aufschwung Ost he started DJ-ing. His idols were The Advent, Mills and other great names from the Detroit-scene. In 2002 he started producing and soon he has reached his own style of producing. A mixture of all kinds of techno-elements.
On this release he’s shows us more from his minimal side. But this minimal with an excellent drive in it. Heavy basses, driving rhythms and strange kind of samples. Enjoy this new release on Earmin!

Luca Bacchetti is definitely a force to be rockoned with in today’s house and techno scene. His background of soul, hip hop and even drum & bass has given him the right foundation to become one of the future international stars of Dance music.
Luca cut his teeth in the scene with a Radio show on club Culture, which gave him the initial notoriety and deserved push to start playing clubs in and around Italy. he later found a niche for himself playing and producing quality funked-up house and techno alongside his friend and radio show partner Antonio Pocai, which helped him getting noticed even further.
The thing that differentiate Luca’s work from the myriads of other producers out there is a strong identity in his music. His productions have the right amount of funk with a sprinkle of darkness and an essentially great groove which makes its tracks irresistible on the dance floor. Since 2005 he has produced several successful 12’s on Tenax Recordings, the label run by Alex Neri.
His real rise to fame came in 2006 with a stellar re-work of Bini & Martini - Stop, which was number 1 in the Beatport download charts for two weeks and was charted by many top Djs around the world.

Housestep? Dubhouse? Whatever you want to call it, Appleblim’s got it on this edition of the RA podcast.
Those celebrants have been legion, but perhaps the most interesting have been the house/techno cognoscenti. Producers like Ricardo Villalobos and Radioslave have both made their love plain by penning original productions or remixing pre-existing tracks that straddle this new genre that has yet to been given a credible name. We’re not out to do it today. Instead, we humbly offer up yet another podcast that continues to sketch out the fertile ground being forged by both sides, whether it be in Shed’s remix of Radioslave or Shackleton’s glistening take on Geiom’s ‘Reminissin’. Whatever it is, Appleblim showcases it on his RA podcast with aplomb.
