Frank Dorittke is back on Pharmacom Records with a new LP from his first album Mare Tranquillitatis. Again a real master piece of electronic music. His mix from synth sounds, guitar riffs and old school drum patterns is a homage to the old electronic scene from the early 70s.

The Swedish band The Search wraps catchy pop melodies into a gloomy cloak, creating escaping the daily grey routines. When the press is talking about The Search, they speak of a beautiful retro-mix of wave and rock in the vein of The Cure and Joy Division. The band does not deny their roots, but take pleasure in paraphrasing them in their own slightly deranged and atmospheric way.

In order to achieve a wider musical range on their 4th album ‘Saturnine Songs’ they hooked up two diferent producers. Kristofer Jönson from the band Jeniferever was hired to conjure up the melancholic, darker part of the album with songs like ‘Yes-Man’ and ‘Swimmer’ and Elof Loelv, producer and musician, was engaged to invoke the electronical parts in songs like ‘Distant’ and ‘Other People’, where he created a catchy, yet dreamy sound. The album is mastered at Studio Tonteknik by Magnus Lindberg, a well-known mastering engineer.

The first single ‘Distant’ is a good preview of the upcoming CD-release on April 25, 2008 (in Germany on May 16, 2008). Two more tracks from ‘Saturnine Songs’, ‘Other People’ and ‘Swimmer’, are already available on Myspace.

“Dynamics of Darkness” is the second full-length release by Brokenkites.

From Origami Shadows:

“Did you know that something on the order of every seven years the average human replaces ninety eight percent of their molecules with new molecules? That’s like every handful of years, you’re ninety eight percent different than you were before, yet you hardly notice a real change at all. I guess you kind of realize that you’re growing older, and your relationships change, but you feel like you’re the same person, for the most part.”

“Really? Ninety eight percent?” I asked, wondering if she was right.

“Look it up!” she replied. “Anyway, that’s not the point I’m making, it’s just an idea, an example. The point I am trying to make to you is that you never notice a change, but a change has been made, gradually. And maybe that’s what happens when you die, you just sort of make a smooth transition to the next level, a level that’s probably only about one or two percent of the way things are as we know it.”

“That’s a good point, but I think you’re reaching for something that isn’t really there.”

“Maybe, but it makes sense to me.” She crossed her arms on top of the covers. “I mean, you don’t have to have god for that, do you?”

The music of Hollydrift integrates technology, the human voice, calculated soft electronics, found sound, and rhythm. In the four tracks of the Halting Gait EP, Hollydrift maintains this signature sound while making impressionistic ambient textures constructed into overt unapologetic emotional gothic tableaux framed by steady rhythms. Choral voices resemble medieval motets while recalling shimmering sheets of sound ala shoegaze. Through it all, unintelligible singing voice samples weave in and out of focus communicating the melancholy and chaos against a background of looping introspection. This EP marks a new period in the band’s artistic development. Gone now are the noise collages and in their place, an expansive sonic landscape from a land of clouds and snow.

Hollydrift is Mathyas Erin Anderson, an audio artist who lives and works in Ozaukee County Wisconsin. For many years Mathyas created noise/sound collage but has permanently abandoned that genre for a smeary shoegaze form of darkwave using synthesizers, drum machines, found sounds, and human voice. Mathyas is not a musician as much as a music sculptor; bringing musical elements together that don’t always match or fit a popular sonic model of proper music.

“Pneuma” is the eighteen deepindub release made from the mind of Alexandre Lehmann in art Zzzzra.

With this ep he provides four firm dub techno tunes, that are tight burners that will cause people moving and dreaming on the floor. Tunes with grudging beats and flashing delay stabs, underlining dubby cut-off pads, and expecially Sumo track rich of longing faraway dubs.

I hope you enjoy this ep and look as forward to Zzzzra’s new material as I do too.

Serendipity is based in Nottingham, UK and apart from producing deep house, ambient and classical, she plays classical piano, has been djing at different venues and works as music tech teacher.

Seeing these tracks as her first steps into the stage light, we are anticipating what is to come.

A while ago (last summer to be exact) an ep appeared for a short while and then vanished equally as fast. due to complications with some of the tracks, the whole ep had to be pulled - and until now Jari Ylamaki’s tracks have been in limbo waiting for release. Here’s the result - eight tracks of pure ambience thanks to an inspired (and patient) artist! Theres certainly some elements of Vangelis in this ep with some Biosphere rolled in for good measure. Not as glitchy as MigloJE but a world of its own.

“Dangerous Rituals” is a recording that attempts to depict the feeling of going through some of life’s more dangerous rites of passage, lessons learned the hard way, times in which the most innocent creatures must take little a blackening of their soul for the sake of growth and greater development. It is a soundtrack to to some disturbing, enthralling, nightmarish times in my not-too-distant past.

Though one long piece, “Dangerous Rituals” is comsposed of three subsections; “Tunnel of Propaganda (Flat Hearing Field)”, “Minefield (Fourth Day Visual Hallucinations)” and “Red Phosphorus (An Endless Succession of Collapsing Pathways)”

In this recording, certain distorted voices seem to speak ill of you in your very presence while others urge you to continue to do what you cannot resist. Harsh digital noises represent visual misinterpretations of overloaded optic nerves and saturated neurotransmission environments. Slowly growing and mutating beats depict time and places that provide only momentary autonomy but that don’t stay peaceful for long before disintegrating into chaos.

The end result: the listener feel as though they have been through some sort of hell, but regrets nothing.

Straight from Winnipeg’s experimental electronic scene, vitaminsforyou has been developing sound and music for theatre, dance, film, video, animation and prose across Canada working with artists in a variety of genres from electro-acoustic sound designers to some of Canadas darling pop practitioners. Recent performances include an invitation to play at Mexico Citys Mutek Festival, Toronto’s Canadian Electronic Ensembles Festival and the Deep Wireless Festival, Montreal’s Mutek Festival, Saskatoon’s Digidome Festival of contemporary sound, music, and digital video, Vancouver’s New Forms Festival, and Winnipeg’s Send and Receive Festival.

Metamorphosis is founded midst 2006. Metamorphosis are a bunch of guys who have well earned their marks in the music industry. They started their collaboration after having a severe encounter with a fraud, hence; ‘Van Damage Experience’ as the title for their first release. Getting back from their journey through dark alleys and other obscure places, you wouldn’t sent your worst enemy…they have recorded a new style of dance music. Hard to grasp, hard to put a label on… Fuelled by their frustrations of lost promises, persistent in making a statement these guys are in touch with their dark side and decided to translate this into music. Leaning on strong drum and bass lines they have created a sound to get even with this fraud - Kevin should come out of the closet!!! Where most people would hire a lawyer, they are on the verge of a perfidious act without being shilly shally and they CAN percieve the perdition!
They invited a few ON-Mix artists to make a remix of their songs.
